How To Make More Money Online
74Learn How To Increase Your Online Earnings
In this hub I'll teach you how I have managed to increase my online earnings by monitoring current events on TV and on the Internet and reacting by making corresponding HubPages and websites. I hope you find this hub useful. If it helps or if you feel that I've left out some key concepts feel free to let me know in the comments section below.
I'm not an online millionaire but have lots of tips for how to make more money online
If you're like me you're probably trying to make money online. Believe me, it's not easy. But, over the past year I have learned a lot of important lessons along the way. There have been two periods where I was averaging many times my cost of living in daily revenue. I don't want to brag and say that I'm making a million bucks online. That is not the case - and anybody tells you so they're probably full of it. But, I've had lots of days where I've earned bragging rights. While I won't disclose how much I earn because that's my business and won't go into what specific niches I'm marketing I'd be happy to share my ways of significantly increasing my daily earnings.
To make money in online marketing you must be a capitalist
A little side story here. You must read this part because it has huge relevance to how I make money online. Before I started Internet marketing I was a stock broker in Asia. While I sucked at stockbroking (I'm not a smooth talker) I learned a very, very valuable lesson from a client. One day at work my ex-boss (rrr....!!!) assigned me to a new client. Their company was a London-based hedge fund that managed BILLIONS of dollars. Anyways, one day the fund manager came to our office to meet me. He was a young Indian lad born in Hong Kong. He explained his philosophy towards buying stocks and utilizing his stockbrokers (us). He said, "Basically, we try to be nice. If something or somebody is working - GREAT! We stick with them. But, at the end of the day, we're capitalists. If you're not making money for us - unfortunately we have to drop you."
To make money online I strongly advise to follow current events
Another important note about this client. They were a fund that traded stocks based around CURRENT EVENTS, called an event-driven fund. By this I mean the fund bought and sold stocks based on the news on TV and in the newspapers. This "event-driven" concept has heavily influence how I make money online. I'll explain below.
To make money you must drop projects that are not making you any money!
Now you ask - Dawei888, How do you apply thes lessons learned from this stockbroking client to making money online? Basically to earn money online you have to be a bit of a capitalist snob. If you're doing something that simply isn't working after several months DROP IT! You're wasting your time! Whether you're earning money or not is a yes or no question - there is NO maybe involved. In my experience I haven't earned a PENNY with ClickBank. Think it's time to drop them? Mmm - probably!
The event-driven concept and how it applies to online marketing
Over the last 12 months there have been two periods when my earnings shot up significantly. The first period was during Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign. During this time I had an affiliate sales website that linked into Obama-related auctions on eBay. I was getting tons of hits and consequently made money. More recently I have seen a jump in my earnings as I built some sites in reaction to current events.
Economic laws of supply and demand and how they apply to online marketing
When there's a current event people rush to the Internet to find out more information. In the beginning there are very few pages to meet the Internet surfers' appetite for more news. That's where we come in - the online marketers. By writing pages of information about the breaking news we're MEETING THE CONSUMERS' DEMAND. If you react to the news quick and write some pages that link to corresponding affiliate products you'll be sure to make some money FAST. As time goes by more and more Internet marketers will write pages that match the demand and it becomes harder and harder to get on the search engines.
Time to market - how does this apply to online marketing?
Time to market describes the the time it takes to bring your product to the market. In our case our product is either our HubPages our our websites. Following a current event you have a short period of time that you can write your Internet pages. If you're too slow other online marketers will get their pages up faster than you. But, if you move fast you have the chance to beat the other guys. It's a race. If you see something big happen on TV and can think of a matching affiliate product and can get your page up lickity split you'll be sure to make some money fast.
As an online marketer your job is to watch current events and react fast with matching web pages
So, to summarize my paragraphs above your core objective is to constantly keep an eye on current events on TV and on the Internet. These events can be related to sports, music, movies, political news etc etc. When things happen in the media you need to take a quick look on sites such as eBay and Amazon to see if there's a matching product. If there is MOVE FAST WITHOUT HESITATION because you'll be well on your way to making real money online.
When something works you MUST run with it - ride that wave baby!
Okay, when I first started online marketing I used to just throw up websites to see if they'd work or not. I'd kind of look at eBay and just pick any product to market randomly. That's the WRONG approach. If you want to make money online you must be flexible react quickly to current events as I've mentioned above.
But, here's my point. Most entrepreneurs try out tons of ideas before they find that ONE that makes them money. The same goes for online marketing. Most niches you try will be duds. But, once you find one that works you need to STICK WITH IT and squeeze out all the juice you can.
For website promotion you must only use sites that are delivering you traffic and drop the rest
In another hub I'll get into the subject of website promotion. If you don't promote your websites (and HubPages for that matter) you'll struggle to make money online. This is a tough subject. I have a handful of Web 2.0 websites that I use to promote my websites. They consist of social bookmarking, social shopping, social networking and classified ad sites. As an online marketer you must monitor which sites are getting you traffic via the search engines and which sites are not. If you don't monitor this you'll waste time submitting links to too many sites. My main point is this: Once you find a niche idea that works stick with your web 2.0 sites that are delivering your traffic and utilize them to the maximum to deliver you your traffic.
I hope this hub has helped you. These are just a handful of the valuable lessons that I've learned to make money online. The learning is on-going and I always learn something new every day. I look forward to learning more from you in the comments section below!

hi David, thanks for this hub, unfortunately i am now having problem with some of my website, they are currently not working for me, i cracked my head to find out the answer. after read your hub, i knew my mistake, thanks bro, you really helpful.
Tuff Kid - Thanks for that comment. I think 95% of what i read online is crap. Most guys are in your face trying to make u feel insecure so u take our your credit card and buy their product. its garbage. we all have what it takes to make money online by using our heads and thinking + acting independently.
tommy - hey man! i know what it's like to have sites up and running that are not working. if ur site comes up on the 1st page of yahoo but isn't making u money (i have many) it's probably cuz the search volume is too low. that's why i suggest focusing on current events.
thanks again guys, dawei888
I'm all for current events marketing, but what happens when that interest dies out? Would it continue to earn a profit? Unless we update the site or webpage at the point we know for a fact that the event trend has subsided.
Unless this type of marketing you mean to constantly adapt to new rising trends and events all the time, which could be viable....
This hub made me think..cheers!
Dawei, first off congratulations on the 100 score, looks pretty cool. Second, if you don't mind I will link this to my newest hub because one of the points I was making was people getting frustrated because of so many ways to build a business, and you have outlined one that is useful.
As you mentioned timing and swift response is so important in the technique you described above, so what is frustrating to newbies is they see the prize, (money) but the work doesn't fit their personality, meaning it's always a struggle, in short it's a bad fit. This doesn't have to be so, there are many ways to make money from the Internet. Great hub
Regards
P.S. Thanks for giving me the 5 minutes to edit these comments, without spell check I'd be sunk..
Thank you for such an excellent, down to earth, no b****s***t hub. It put into words thoughts I had been having as a way to try making money but hadn't gotten around to actually putting into action. It's great to know that if done right it can work out. Keep up the good work:)
SOOOO helpful (as always)!
Great advice dawei, I know this works because I personally know couple of guys who are all about the current trends and they make pretty good money milking it for few months at a time. It doesn’t matter if the interest in a particular project dies, because if you base your business on “current trends” you are always hunting for new projects and that’s how you keep building new sources of income. What I don’t agree is dropping what doesn’t work for you, most of the time newbs fail because they don’t have the proper techniques or they are too lazy to invest themselves 100 percent on their projects. I think perseverance is the answer but filtering through all the bs on the net can be quite a challenge. In my opinion, the number one reason why newbies fail 99% of the time is because they are too busy reading, reading, and reading some more instead of putting things into action and learning by making mistakes. Another fine making money hub dawei, 100% bs free read.
after reading your previous hub, and then following the link to Badco, I looked up the keyword tool link and tested some phrases. Sure enough phrases like 'michael jackson' brought up millions of hits because of the obvious news. Its a lot of work churning out hubs each time the next big story gets out. I wonder if you can view Hubpages on Blackberry...I'm always on the move!
Your other post has proven to be helpful, as I am sure this one is just as helpful. Thanks for the info
Hi Guys! WOW! Your comments were really interesting and got me thinking. I'll respond to each of you.
Waynet: With marketing around current events you need to stay on top of following current trends. You'll have a window of a few weeks or a few months to make your money then it will die out. I think it's best to have a mixture of sites/hubs with some based on current events and others that are evergreen (always relavent despite current events).
rb11: If you linked to my hub I'd be honored. Thanks! I also find myself getting caught up reading stuff and watching videos. I find it's best to set aside 1 hour before I go to bed as my education time.
Tigermadstanely - Thanks and good luck! Put the plan into action asap!
ajm5050 - Great comment! Regarding giving up on projects that are not making me money. I will commit time. But, if I look at my control panel after 6 month and see thousands of clicks but not one buck in revenue I'll drop the program. So, good-bye ClickBank. RB11 also mentioned newbies reading too much which distracts from getting projects done. We all need to find a balance and separate productive time & self-education time. It can be tough - I procrastinate WAY too much!!! Thanks again AJM5050!
Hi Tpri - Yes, it's a TON of work to do online marketing in the way I've described in my hub. But, if you work hard, concentrate and move fast you can make some serious money. Regarding viewing HubPages on your Blackberry - I'm not sure! I can read them on my iPhone though! Tks!
Hello iamqweenbee: Thanks so much for your comments. If I've done some work that's proven to help people then I'm a very happy guy!
Thanks again, everybody!!! dawei888
I find all your hubs inspirational. Thanks. I have never made enough to keep me for a day yet but I keep dreaming.
Hello Peter - Thanks for your kind comments. I'm touched that you've found my hubs inspirational. -dawei888
This is certainly an eyeopener for me. I'm still in the process of finding what works before I dip my foot into the online money making scheme. So actually I should not be reading this because it's all about making "more" money already. However, I still found it very informative even if I am not yet making any money.
Anyway, it's a great hub!
I agree with the idea of dropping those that don't make you money. I know in the past I have carried on with some where the rewards have just not been worth the effort. Some good advice here. I know I need to advertise my hubs more.
Hi Jill & Ethel!
Jill - Making money online does not have to be a "scheme" and can be very legintimate. Thanks for your comment though. When I first started I would have loved more advice.
Ethel - Yes - we must drop projects that aren't working. After a certain period of time and a certain number of clicks with no money coming in it simply isn't worth it!
thanks again!
dawei888
Thanks...I had thought of responding to current events. This whole affiliate marketing is such a different approach than in the traditional world of marketing where I've worked for so many years (where my clients already have the product and niche and I just have to help them hit the right audience). I've already got a few projects that I'm sure I'll be dropping :) I'm so greatful the you and others share information about how to be successful.
Hi RosieOne - Similar to offline marketing our jobs as Internet marketers are to meet consumer demand. Just our job is to make (supply) webpages which match what insternet surfers (consumers) are searching fror (demand!). I'm sure you'll benefit very well from your traditional marketing experience here. Thanks for your kind comment! dawei888
Dawe you are deff on a run man with these money making hubs, hope they are making you some money, nice advice !
Hi BadCompany99! When I experience bits and pieces of success I'm more than happy to share back some of what I've learned! Thanks, dawei888

dawei888,
great hub once again! i really see the sincerity in your writings. by the way, do you really think Clickbank is a dud? Their commission %s look so good and so enticing.
hi kentjacob - thanks again for your kind comment! i'm sure clickbank is not a dud for some people but it is for me! i have put lots of clickbank links into my hubs and i put a banner on my friend's website that gets an average 5,000 hits a day. i have had 100s of clicks and have never earned one cent! a few other people online have complained of the same thing. after 6 months of trying and not earning a cent i think it's time to just let it go. thanks, dawei888
Wow, excellent information. There was a lot of stuff I never even thought of.
Hi Garrett! Thanks for the kind comment! dawei888

Jenny
hi isaac and jenny - thanks for your kind comments and best of luck - jenny, i'll go check out your hubs! dawei888
Good advice.
hi sandy, thanks!
Yikes -- rough when those sites aren't making money/clicks. But takes time to build -- search engines need a month to catch up with new links/articles etc. Takes a long time to find sites which will allow you to post your links. Sometimes better to work harder, or slightly change tactics, than dump a site. Very hard to get the word out to those interested. Many of us need help in that very specific regard. I can link related sites to my articles 'till the cows come home, but rarely ever a quid pro quo. More specific help on steering traffic to our writing.
Very useful hub and interesting.
At last I have found someone who writes sense. I have over 20 sites at the moment and I have made 0.14cents ,0.06cents went to charity so naturally I am trying really hard. Thank you for at least telling me that you have to keep going and the methods that you have suggested have a great deal of common sense. regards BRIAN
Okay, so my business partner & I have facebook, myspace, twitter, hubpages now, linked in, blogspot. We have all of these online tools plus we run a couple of online ads for our small school of art, health & wellness.
I've been told, that the more online actvity you have, the more hits you will get on your actual website. The higher you hit on the Google register. We are basically sustained by word of mouth and I know we are doing good things, how do we really gain notariaty now?
Good insight, thank you. : )
great advice - google trends and google insights can help identify hot current events and what is being searched for at the moment.
very well done - great practical advice i enjoyed this article! Thanks
Dear all - thanks so much for your kind comments! I'll go join your fan clubs now!!!
Eric Bryan - I like your line, "Sometimes better to work harder, or slightly change tactics, than dump a site". I've found that re-working the internal links in an existing website and changing the positioning of my adsense has helped me a lot on sites that i was thinking of abandoning! See:
http://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Double-Your-Adsense
brownlickie - wow! i'm glad to help and hope you can make more money with your many sites!
allyerin - yes, we all need to be active on these web 2.0 promotion sites. i just wrote a new hub that lists out many sites that we use to help promote. See:

hi fivestar - yes, google trends is GREAT. since i wrote this hub i've been checking there every morning when i log on!
jayorban - my pleasure! good luck with your online marketing!
This really resonates with me - stuff I kind of know but have never properly put into practice - Being event driven and thinking about time to market is brilliant!
Thank you for some great, original internet marketing ideas.
Hello Rik - Thanks so much for that kind comment. I'm just taking what's worked for me and sharing back. Cheers, dawei888
Great tips and good read - thanks
Thanks ThePartyAnimal! dawei888
dawei888,
Current events are definitely good short term income builders, but unless you are determined to make a huge killing in a short term, they do not generate much residual income. You also need to do a ton of work over and over. I believe in the Evergreen method of writing and collecting residuals off of it. "Evergreen" refers to a topic that will be applicable 365 days a year, forever. Topics within politics, entertainment or world news do not have that characteristic. They are here today and gone tomorrow and require a lot of work writing new articles on a daily basis.
Would you rather write several hubs that will increase their value over time, or constantly work your head off generating timely articles?
I've written less than 50 Hubs, many which don't generate much income, but there are a few which have increased my income from a few pennies per day in Adsense, to 3 dollars per day. That is because they are "Evergreen" Hubs
hello hglick - thank you very much for your interesting and value-added comment. I think the way to go is to have a mix of both current-events related material and evergreen material. I do indeed make money from both. But, I must say that I've made a lot more money from my current-events related hubs and blog posts. thanks, dawei888
*****UPDATE******* After about 10 months of being a member I FINALLY made money on ClickBank. I still have not received my first check yet. Based on this I'm not leaning in the direction that it's not a scam after all! I'll let everybody know how it goes! thanks, dawei888
Thanks for your honest post. I just started with internet marketing almost 3 months ago. You are right that newbies spend more time reading and trying to learn everything under the sun. I knew in the back of my mind that I needed to put my efforts into action. So, when I finallystarted to put some work in my marketing I saw some traffic to my site and I was on the first page of google, yahoo, and msn. I have a good niche but I need better content. I always check out google trends and insights for hot trends and read about those topics. I learn that idea some years ago, but I have not actually written about it. I am trying to figure out how I can use the current events into my websites(which is a simple one) and into my web 2.0 sites. I post articles almost everyday to around10 to 20 article sites and I get most my traffic that way. I am determine to write more about current happenings into my article and I will post back to you in about 2 weeks and give you and update. By the way I only made $17.17 in my click bank and $3.57 in my adsense I started in May learning and applying some action in JUNE so I only been applying action for 4 weeks, so if I make this new concept work. I will be so happy I just don't know how to say it in words my expressions speak louder "I will have peace of mind".
Thanks, you just given my the fuel to spark my engine in overdrive!

hey, that is so true about watching the current event as an online marketer. Thanks for sharing. Although I didn't read your whole post but I could tell that you have been honest in your article.
Cheers
Hi Toby - LOL - Thanks for your honesty! I rarely read each and every word of other peoples' hubs - who has that kind of time! All the very best! dawei888
I enjoyed your article. I am a newbee and I am at the stage that I don't even know what I don't know....if you catch my drift. I do know that the more I do the more I will understand. Thanks for the tips!
hello selfimproving nan - we're all at diffent stages of our learning. the main point is that the learning continues everday and we continue to see progress. i look forward to getting to know you more! dawei888
Hi,
I loved this Hub. I have a story that coincides. This idea of linking up with current events is so true. I wrote a Press Release for a nursery that was going green by installing solar panels. They were coordinating their throw the switch event with Earth Day. After writing and submitting their PR online, it was picked up by channel 4 (Boston) and they did a BIG story on this little nursery. btw, just getting started I offered to do the press release for nothing, just to have their testimonial (husband's cousin) on my website and look what became of it. I should write a Hub about it really...Funny how the universe works!!!!
Hello Kristi - Wow! Congratulations on the success of your online marketing efforts! That's a wonderful story about how using online marketing techniques took your story to the world through off-line marketing on TV. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful experience with press releases! david
Nice article. Great read. Best of luck in your online money making experiences.
hi chris - thanks so much! i also wish you all the very best in your money making ventures online. david
