Coloring is always a fun activity for kids – what can make it dull, though, is the subject matter of their coloring books. Most coloring books in the market focus on one theme which could probably cause your kids to use the same colors or be tired of the same scenarios.

One way to revive their interest in coloring is to make a custom coloring book that will show different images and pictures that involves their interests. And the good news is that you can form this custom made coloring book yourself. Here are some steps on how to make your own coloring book:

  • First of all go online and search for websites that offer free print out coloring pages. There are hundreds of online sites out there that will give you thousands of images to choose from. To make the activity more fun you can choose the images with your kids that way you can be sure that they will be able to enjoy coloring the images.
  • Click on the images that you like and click on the “print” button. You can use two of the pictures as the front and back cover of your coloring book. Or for a more personal feel you can make your kids design their own cover page. Make sure that you use heavy printer paper for the covers and medium art printer paper for the inside pages.
  • Once the pages are printed out, place the inside pages between the front and back cover and make sure that you align the pages evenly. Use a puncher and measure an inch from the top of the page and punch a hole. Repeat the same measurement from the bottom of the page. Then punch a hole in the middle four inches from the top hole. Make sure that the pages are aligned evenly throughout the whole process.
  • Then cut three pieces of yarn, seven inches each. String one piece through the middle hole. Make sure that you take hold of the ends of the yarn so that they are even. Then tie a bow and tighten it. Repeat the process for the remaining two holes.
  • Generally 15 pages are enough for one coloring book. If your kids want more, you can add more pages or make a new one.

And the good thing is, this makes you save more money compared to buying coloring books. With your own custom made coloring book, your kids will be more involved and engaged in their coloring activities for a longer period of time.
