How To Play Guitar – Tips for Buying a Good Guitar
50Choosing a high-quality guitar lesson is already a frustrating task. The Next troublesome thing you need to do is to buy a great guitar.
I remember the first time when I entered into a guitar store, I was fascinated by a variety of guitars. I did not know which one I should buy. And of course, I bought nothing at that time.
But now, having more experience in buying guitars, it is no longer a difficult task for me. I would like to share my tips with you.
You should not expect to buy your new guitar within a day. It is normally impossible. There are three things you need to prepare in advance.
The first thing is to decide your guitar music style. You should look for an acoustic guitar if you like country or classical music. But if heavy metal, blues or rock music is your favorite, you may consider choosing an electric guitar.
Secondly you need to do some research on the Internet, newspapers or guitar magazines. It is advantageous to you because you may find out which store is going to sell guitars at a lower price and give you extra benefit.
Thirdly I suggest you finding your guitar instructor or some of your friends who has been playing guitar for a while to go with you. They may give you some opinions. It helps you stay away from the subjective advice from the salesperson.
Once you are well-prepared, you may enter the guitar store. Look at every single guitar in the store until you find out your favorite one. You need to find a guitar that you feel comfortable to play with. It should not be too small or too big to you.
To test the guitar, strum the open strings to check if there is any buzzing sound. You may also play some songs or scales slowly. When you are trying an electric guitar, you need to plug in an amp and try the pick-ups as well.
Do not be afraid of trying a guitar loudly in a public area. If you want to buy a great guitar, you must play it loud and listen to the sound carefully.
Some people may feel uncomfortable to do that. In that case, ask you friends or guitar teacher to try for you. It is one of the reasons you go with them.
I strongly recommend you to try as many as guitar you can. Even though you think you have found the right one, try the others too. It is because you would never know if the next one is better or not.
Do not believe the price listed on the product tags. You can normally pay less than that. Trying guitars which are cheaper than your targeted one can help you get discount. Also tell the salesperson if the model of your targeted guitar is being sold at a lower price at another guitar store.
Before you pay the money, you may also ask the salesperson if you can get some guitar accessories for free. They include capo, strings, picks, tuners and so on. You may not get them free but you may be offered a discount.
That is what I usually do when buying a new guitar. I hope the advice can help you.
