How To Prevent Elder Abuse In The Hospital Or Senior Care
What We Don't Know About Elder Abuse Will Hurt Them
I would like to say that all medical personnel are professional and caring, and for the most part they are... However there are many episodes of elder abuse and abuse in hospital to helpless patients.
We don't want to believe bad things can go on but they do. The hospitals are for the most part understaffed with nurses and doctors. The amount of work and hours that they put in can cause fatigue and will directly effect the care the patients receive.
I am not saying that all over worked medical professionals are careless and insensitive but sometimes things happen. People are human and all don't live by kinder and gentler rules when dealing with strangers. Some see there jobs with people just as jobs and could care less about your emotional well being while in their care.
I and many others can think back when we may have been in a hospital and met the one nurse or nurses assistant that we didn't want to come back. Just imagine being totally helpless, in pain, and not able to talk. Your nurse sees you lips dry and does not offer water. You need pain medication and they don't give it to you but move you around as if you have no feelings.......
Well this happened to my father and will not happen again. I am able to stay with him and meet his care takers. Incidentally I was in his room when his nurse came in an aggressively asked him why he buzzed her three times. She was not aware I was in the room until seconds later.
She of course was surprised and also could not explain why he was allowed to be in pain after his surgery the same day.I raised hell after witnessing his neglect and was appalled at the treatment he was receiving.
Of course the nurses and other caretakers are great now. But why the issues before I was came? These same wonderful people are the ones that made him feel so terrible are now the ones that rush down to him with pain medication at pre-scheduled times when he is in therapy or x rays.
