MySpace Marketing 7 Easy Steps
Follow this 7 step guide when writing your profile content (the text on your myspace page...)
1. Use Pictures... people love pictures. They also get to know you better when you use lots of them. You want people to feel comfortable with you and know that you are a real person, with interests and opinions and not just a small business owner trying to turn a buck. Adding pictures on MySpace is done by inserting an image url or it can be done by a third party application.
Try SlideShare.com and get a collection of pictures on your profile. Slideshare allows you to display multiple pictures in a slideshow fashion - as the name suggests.Customize the skin (look) of the display box to compliment your layout. More on layout later.....
2. Headline - simple....use one!! This is the big front headline to 'your story' and starts off the tone for your whole page...it is also a best position possible to plug your website address - remember we are marketing here. This is a top spot especially if you have a good domain name that speaks about your product, opportunity or you.
Use something like: "Hi, My Name is Shaye. The Internet Is My Playground And My Office. I Can Show You How to Have The Freedom To Do The Same. www. your domain goes here .com "
3. Use this phrasing in your "background" paragraph:
"I'm really known as the specialist (queen, king of, master of...) of red widgets. (or your niche...) For years now I have been creating and promoting red widgets to the industry....
Write something that speaks about your business and is going to present YOU as a leader to those reading your MySpace page. It is important to establish some positioning and posture with your site visitors but don't get arrogant. Be humble yet assertive with your choice of words.
4. Establish A BIG Problem: You were burned out... broke... unhappy... unfulfilled... frustrated... scared of...down and broke all the time......
Write from the heart and tell your story. Talk about those problems and the obstacles you faced. This step is the first of the "before & after" phase of your content, so focus on the before and write in the past tence.
Use emotional words here and really let us feel what your "before" was feeling like to you... people will connect and resonate with your situation...
Do Not Write 'Bull' ......People Are Smarter Than That

5. Solve the Problem: "And all that changed when I..." Be just as emotional describing how finding the solution feels. Talk about your real life situation now and where you're going in the future. Talk about what you're accomplishing in life and with your business. Remember you are telling the "after" part of your story and people LOVE a happy ending. A happily ever after gives people hope... makes them think: "I can fix my situation too... I can do it..."
6. Call To Action: Give people direction with an action step of some kind. Invite them to grab your free newsletter, or visit your site and sign your guest book, whatever it is that will lead the person to where it will benefit your business and page foucs. Ask them to visit and check out your video... or get to your blog to find out how they can... Lead them. I think you understand the point...whatever it is that you want others to do or will lead them to the next step....Give calm but assertive direction. People love leaders...so choose your words well. Write with the mindset of a winner not a loser.
7. The "Take Away"... use Qualifiers... you don't want to attract just anybody...people who are not going to take action after reading a couple of criteria are not the people who are going to resond to your business or products, so don't let them waste your time. Use wording like....
"These days I only want to work with _______enter qualifying traits or skills... people who are not _______.... select some disqualifying traits and take YOU away from some people... Attracts even more good quality MySpace friends you will want to get to know you...
You KNOW WHAT YOU WANT... people respect that. They won't waste your time if you don't waste theirs.
HOT TIP – Thanks to Expert Hubpages Author, Bonnie Ramsey
Never send an email to someone on your friends list about your business unless they have specifically requested said email. Just like everywhere else online, you can be accused of spamming on MySpace and this can lead to your account being deleted so just don’t do it.

How To Participate On MySpace Without Spamming
Use your profile, bulletins, comments, events and posts in the group forums to promote you and your business.
- Bulletin Tips – You can send messages about your business via this method. Perhaps there is a sale on that you want to mention or an upcoming conference you want to invite them to attend.
- You can also use bulletins as a safe way to send business offers to all your friends, however do not flood their bulletin board with duplicate notices that do not have a social value. Always remember that MySpace is a social site.
- Group Forum Posts – The type of group will dictate the right action you should take. If the group is a fan club of a celebrity you shouldn’t post ads about your business there. However, if the forum is business opportunity or advertising orientated, then feel free to promote away. Just don’t ad duplicate posts. For more tips on Forum marketing optimization and etiquette, refer to the Hubpage, How To Post To Forums For Marketing Success.
- Event Management – create an event and invite your friends to participate. The invitation allows your contacts to accept or decline participation. Your actions here will be dictated by your business and your own personal style.
- Comments Tips – Leave a comment of praise, or something that speaks about you or the person. Don’t just write “if you like this profile you’ll love mine visit ......... “ While these sorts of comments probably won’t get you deleted, I for one don’t appreciate blatant ad’s being left as comments and many other MySpace networkers feel the same. Promote on MySpace comments with a personal note at the top of your comments, and then end with a small promotion at the end is my recommendation.
- If the comments allow HTML, enter a snippet at the end that links to your blog, Hubpages hubs/profile, website, MySpace profile or lead capture page. I usually enter a RSS reader banner that promotes my blog, Hubpages or articles or a link to my capture page. An example of this image is below.

Hmmm.
I looked at myspace a while ago, and came to the conclusion that it would be a waste of time.
Most of the sites I saw look like explosions in a paint factory, with enough flashing lights and text to put a disco to shame.
Do you think that the type of stuff I write about would be in any sort of demand there?
Great question and observation Eric, thanks for giving me the opportunity to share more...
My personal belief is that ANYONE who is online can benefit from MySpace. It’s all about the profile settings you use, the content you present, and the type of person you attract. Sure MySpace has heaps of trashy profiles but when it comes to social networks, if you don’t want to have your niece’s druggie rocker friends on your business profile then don’t invite them to be friends. Have another profile for that if you want – I notice lots of people do it. Networking on MySpace isn’t a popularity/friends contest.
Your business profile should represent the type of people you want to attract – so your target audience.
So in short yes there would be a market for what you write over there, you just have to present it right and hit your profile target. There is a market for everyone’s writing/business when you consider the reach that MySpace has across the net. Even if you just use MySpace as a Hubpage’s author presentation, you are bound to find new readers and generate more traffic for your hubs and of course more earnings in the long run.
ShayeI would add , addnewfreinds.com it's an automated tool you can use to add friends , it works and is sort of handy. The best thing about it I can cook food and add friends :-) . great tool. it's about $30 for 1 account or if you want to use it for unlimited accounts , say you had 3 my spaces . You can pay 59 and thats a 1 off payment the 30 and the 59.
Myspace is still the largest social networking site , it works
oh great article, I do suggest don't use your personal my space account if you have one, set up a brand new one for business purposes. I think toksee is out now it's another social networking site hav ent got around to it yet.
Excellent information and well explained.
Well done and thank you!
Dom
Thanks Shaye,
I'll have another look at it.
i am yet to get into myspace. I guess i shall have to do it now. Thanks for the Hub!
Great hub! I would like to add, though that MySpace is a SOCIAL networking site, rather than a business networking site. Therefore, you should be very careful in promoting your business there. Let your profile page, blogs and such be your advertisment. You should NEVER send out emails to all your friends list there. Only email about your business when someone specifically asks you about it. Otherwise, MySpace WILL delete your account. It would really stink to put hours into building your profile just to have it deleted.
Many people jump on MySpace, create a profile with their links and then start contacting everyone that they add to their friends list with their business info. This is a major "no-no" and can get you banned. Promote your profile page and blogs and let them build your business from there :)
Bonnie
Hi Derek, ta.... two profiles is good advice, thanks for your input.
Shaye
Thanks for the info. I always think of MySpace as a "teen" site but I'll take a new look at it.
I agree with using your story to meet and connect with people. I disagree, however, with your statement about using a headline. I think if you put a headline out there like that people are going to know you are a business and will not accept your friend request, for fear of getting tons of email about your business.
I think when you state the problem and let people know how you solved it, if they are having the same/similar problem and they get to know, like and trust you they will ask for more information about how you solved the problem.
It's more of a law of attraction approach I guess, but it works great for me. I also suggest deciding WHO your market is, and then only adding people as friends who are within that target market. It makes it much easier to keep in touch with people and build relationships. :)
Great hub, thanks for sharing.
Jackie
Dom - thanks I always like to hear that
Eric - that's great, you'll find a way to make it work
Anamika - thanks for commenting & good luck
Hi Bonnie - you advice about not spamming people is spot on and I should include that in the hub. I'll be giving you credit and linkage of course : ) Do you want me to link to your profile or a particular hub? Let me know.....
thanks again for this great tip,
Shaye

GREAT HUB! A lot of USEFUL INFO HERE!
Thanks! From CJ - The GBG FAMILY TEAM

Shaye,
Thanks for the credit. I wasn't plugging for that. Just some people get a bit over zealous when they get their profiles done and end up getting their account deleted. However, I never turn down a link to my profile page if anyone wants to :) This is an excellent hub and I am sure it will help many!
Bonnie
Hi CJ, Very glad you found it usefull, don't you just love free advertising? : )
Shaye
Hey Bonnie....always like to give credit where credit is due. When I read your comments I knew it was something I had to edit into the hub and there was never any thought to NOT giving you a reference/credit note...common courtesy in my book. Plus I believe what you put out into the world comes back to you in other ways....listen to me getting all philosophical over a MySpace marketing hubpage!lol
Shaye
Yes. I concur. This is a great hub. I really am not a fan of myspace. There's just too much noice going on. However, after your tips, I am going to give it a go. Thanks a bunch.
Great stuff Profitablesistas : ) Good on ya for trying something new - good choice!
The problem with MySpace is that they have an explicit no promotional rule in their T.O.S. While they haven't enforced it strictly, you agree in your T.O.S. that they can fine you, (a decent amount per hit) if you do anything that they consider commercial. It may be a fine site for teenagers, but its too ugly for adults who want to use it as a social networking site. And its too dangerous for people to use as a business promotion.
I was not aware of the maketing potential of Myspace. thank you for this detailed hub
Regards
Great Spam Tips and well-written hub! Yeah Myspace is cool for some, but these days I much prefer fresh new emerging Social networks that compensate their users like Yuwie. MySpace is stingy, they never share a red cent to the millions of users that have enabled them to earn MILLION$ hand-over-fist year in & year out. Furthermore they are cracking down on not just spammers but honest affiliate marketers too. So it is getting increasing challenging to conduct any sort of business on MySpace these days.
I bumped into a program called Spacebankers written by a guy named Ryan that opened my eyes to the potential of marketing on social networks as a whole. There are some really cool techniques used by Ryan (a college student in Ohio who has made so much money doing this, he almost quit), and his passing by dorm mates whom he used to try out his new techniques. The ones that worked are on his site. It has helped me since I am older and did not have a clue what to do on these sites! Thank for reaffirming that with this hub. I enjoyed reading all of these comments after your hub page. Thumbs up!
Good one safetyfirst. All responsible business owners should make sure they are familiar with terms of service before accepting an online membership. If you name represents you in any way, then I can only presume that this is a step you always take. Keep your business safe and never be ignorant to TOS.
cheers
Shaye
Glad I could help Sukritha! Thanks for commenting.
Thanks for the compliment and for sharing your own point of view Multimastey.
Shaye
That's great Kristie and MySpace isn't for everyone. If nothing else I hope this hub has opened up some new idea's for people to use with their own skills, personality and business. I always encourage people to take what is valuable for you and apply the action as suits your circumstance. All the best
Shaye
I have to agree with statement "MySpace isn't for everyone". I think before anyone takes a dive into that ocean they need to evaluate the target audience and if it fits it - jump in ..
Very nice "How To"
Very practical advice Freesecrets and thanks for your supportive comments.
Thanks for the tips, especially on slideshare. I saw slideshare pages getting page 1 ranks on google for my keywords.
Your welcome Sylvan. Slideshare on MySpace is just great.
