How To Raffle Your House

Homeowners these days may be tempted to do just about anything to sell their home. One concept that some are turning to is an idea to raffle their home. The internet can be used for just about anything these days and a raffle may be just what the doctor ordered. A local raffle or an online raffle may be a great idea.

You have probably have never even considered an opportunity to win a home. It certainly is not the conventional path to home ownership. In these economic times however it seems that nothing is off limits.

Fox News reported this story: Couple offers house in raffle.

This story is about a couple in Detroit, Michigan who are offering raffle tickets at $100 each. They need to sell 2500 tickets to make it successful. How to Raffle Your House

Couple Builds Online Raffle Site To Raffle Their Home

Another very interesting story involves a couple from Waterford, MI.

Joe VanDevelder is using an internet raffle to sell his home. Rafflejoeshouse.com This will be an interesting story to watch. I'll attempt to reach Joe to get some progress reports from him. I suspect that many raffles will fail due to the inability to market the raffle. How much time should it take? How much time does the homeowner have should be the first question anyone contemplating raffling their home. 6-8 months would be a reasonable time. Those who purchase tickets will not want to wait forever. In my next post, I'll examine some of the methods to consider when marketing your property for a raffle. An online raffle may be your best bet to spread the word but what about local marketing. How can one achieve the best results without spending a fortune? There are some good ideas out there to raffle your houseand we will try to sort out the best. E-mail marketing, build your own internet raffle site and you local TV station and newspaper are ideas we will touch on. Let's don't forget local Realtors, they could be a wonderful resource.

I do believe that this concept will start to catch on and will one day be just another acceptable way for a homeowner to sell their home as evidenced by the CNN video below.

You must be proactive nowadays. Consult with an attorney about the legalities of a house raffle in your state. many states consider them illegal and they are considered gambling. However, many states will allow a house raffle as long as some of the proceeds go to a charity.

For anyone interested, there is now a book about home raffles titled, "The Home Raffle Book" and is located at www.thehomerafflebook.com. It's a must read for anyone conducting or participating in a home raffle and it includes a sample business plan.
