How To Raise Money For Chemotherapy
54Nothing is Impossible!
I had a student whose mother had breast cancer. He was an engineering student and his brother and sister were younger. His father earned a very meagre salary. The family sold all they had - residence, jewellery, everything. Yet treatment expenses were mounting. Any money they got as reimbursement from where the father worked was just the bill amount and it was a pittance compared to the actual expenses. Travel to the hospital, medicines, nutritious food etc were required. The boy was in tears. So helpless and dying to save his mother. He said, "I know this is going to be an uphill task and it is just the question of delaying her death. But if only she could live to see me atleast employed, then she will die in peace." I convinced him that it it would be a good idea to approach any NGO, and took him to one I knew. He was cringing in shame: " We have always lived within our means, and never borrowed a single pie." I told him, "Life is all a matter of give and take. Today there is help when you need, tomorrow certainly a time will come when you will earn well. At that time remember to come here and pay back what you got. It will help some one in need. Also guide people in such dilemma. Life is more important than anything else and you should do your best to save it, that is why you are here." The organization referred him to some good philanthropists who donated money, and the treatment continued. She lived for another five years, and saw her sons employed and daughter married. Then she passed away, but the son indeed went back and made a good donation to the organization. Help is available, seek it. Doors open only when we knock!
You are not alone in such crisis. This also will pass!
