Removing 3M 4200 Industrial Sealant

Even professionals find removing sealant from items can be very difficult indeed, especially when it has been on the item for some time. In fact it can be very difficult to remove even the smallest amount of sealant when you have only just recently applied.

However, in this article we offer some steps on how to remove 3m 4200 sealant from the item which it has been applied to.

Step 1 – You need to first remove as much of the old 3m 4200 sealant that you possibly can by pulling it off where possible.

However, if this proves difficult then use a knife blade to assist you. But make sure you push the blade away from you rather than towards you, otherwise you could end up injuring yourself.

Step 2 – Once you have removed as much of the old sealant using your hands and a blade now is the time to use some sealant remover. You should be able to purchase this not just from your local DIY or hardware store but also online as well. However, it is a good idea if you can to wear rubber gloves as this stage of removing sealant can prove very messy indeed.

The sealant remover normally comes in 150ml tubes which can be placed inside a sealant gun. It is important that when you use these products that you follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer to the letter.

Normally such products need to be applied to the sealant and then left there for around 2 to 3 hours before you are able to scrape off the sealant with a spatula. Also you may need to repeat this process several times and then afterwards clean the area down using methylated spirits. Again this is something that your local hardware or DIY store should stock.

Step 3 – After using the sealant remover when it comes to how to remove 3m 4200 sealant from an item you now need to clean the area off. First off into a spray bottle place a mixture of bleach and water.

This mixture should be made up of 50% bleach and 50% water. Again it is important to prevent your hands becoming damaged you wear rubber gloves when using the solution. Once you have sprayed the mixture on to the area where the sealant has been removed from now leave it to be absorbed for one hour.

Then after the hour is up you need to rinse the area off and do this by washing it clean water. Above we have shown you the steps that you will need to take when it comes to you knowing how to remove 3m 4200 sealant from an object.

As long as you follow the steps provided then although it will take time to remove the sealant it can be done without too much effort or mess being caused.

Due to the wide range of commercial applications for industrial sealants, there is always going to be problems with removing it from certain surfaces.
