You don't have to buy expensive wallpaper removers to get Grandma's old wallpaper off your walls. If your wallpaper is old and dated here are a few technique to remove wallpaper from your walls.

How To Remove Wallpaper Without Breaking The Bank

Supplies Your Will Need To Remove Wallpaper From Your Walls:

  • Wallpaper scoring tool (less than $6.00)
  • Utility knife (less than $1.00)
  • Wallpaper remover liquid (less than $14.00) or Spray bottle filled with hot water and fabric softer
  • Putty knife (less than $8.00)
  • Crash bags (less than $3.00)
  • Drop cloth (less than $10.00)

A Clear Work Area Is A Safe Work Area

Remove Wallpaper Step 1

Clear your work area.  Safety first, may sure your work area is clear of furniture and other objects that can be tripped over or damage from moisture.

Remove Wallpaper Step 2

Use your putty knife to remove the wallpaper.  Your wallpaper may have not been install properly.  Therefore, your wallpaper could be peeled off without any trouble.  If the wallpaper doesn't just peel off the wall go to step 3.  Note, when pulling the wallpaper from the wall pull in a 45 degree angle from the seams.

Remove Wallpaper Step 3

Score the wall with your wallpaper scoring tool or utility knife.  If you are using the utility knife be sure not to score the wall to deeply.

Apply the wallpaper remover liquid to the walls.  If you don't have wallpaper remover liquid you can used hot water and fabric softer.  When applying either liquid mixture be sure to soak the walls good.  Allow mixture 20 to 30 minutes to soak the walls.  Retry to step 2.

If you have completed the first four steps and you are still unable to remove Grandma's wallpaper from your walls try a light sanding.

Remember to wash down the walls you have just remove the wallpaper from.  Be sure to remove all glue and residue before applying paint or more wallpaper
