My sewing machine is my mothers its a Bernina though - never needed fixing - so buy a Bernina or learn how to fix them yourself! I can see sewing getting popular again actually
Yeah, me too. Thrift is in these days. It actually makes a lot of sense to be able to at least be able to tailor your own clothes. That way you can get a perfect fit with any garment that you buy.
I love it that my wife likes to sew - I don't know what I would do without it.
Well I never really thought about repairing a machine myself - even though I'm pretty handy when it comes to most things - I repair all my friends computers. I have a fairly new machine but it gets a lot of use so I'll certainly look into doing it myself if it goes wrong. It's amazing what you can do yourself if you try!
Actually it seems pretty easy - like you I can do basic computer repairs and especially the older style mechanical machines are easy to understand- the main problems are caused by vibration - so you need to tighten stuff up or a replace a belt -not hard!

My wife bought an old sewing machine a while ago and really likes it. She has even taken the time to get to know how to fix it up and get it up and running to tip top shop - she still has a lot to learn, but she is reading her manual like crazy!
