After buying a toyota camery hybryd I decided to see what I could do to save even more gas while driving back and forth to work, since the car still uses gas I figured by saving even more would be a huge benifit to myself and my family.

Here are a few things I do to increase my gas mileage

Every Saturday I check the tire pressure in my vehichle, yes I know this sounds stupid but in the winter the tires tend to have a lower pressure due to the coldness, and YES tires can heat up and change tire pressure even in sub zero tempatures. Summer driving is just as rough.

Next I do not top off my vehicle this just waste gas as much of this "top off" will evaporate right out into the air and with gas over 4 bucks a gallon I do not need to throw my hard earned cash in the trash.

Now this one will sound really crazy but I use the cruise control everywheres, and I set it a mile or two under the speed limit, I dont worry about the people that want to speed behind me I just smile and say you are welcome since I am saving you gas as well. but by going the speed limit I use the brakes LESS which will save me a few bucks in the long run as well.

By not applying the brakes as often I also dont need EXTRA fuel to resume my cruising speed. So by keeping the car moving at a steady speed I also use less gasoline.

The last one is the hardest to do I do not drive over the speed limit, I am willing to leave a few minutes earlier to save a few bucks. As for me I am willing to do what it takes to increase my gas mileage by 3 or 4 miles per gallon since I drive approx 2000 miles a month I can save about 20 to 30 dollars a month with this simple no cost tips.

After 20 years in the car business I wanted to turn the tables on the automotive industry and write a blog called Cars By John
