As an online marketer, generating traffic for your website is one of your primary goals. One of the traffic generating tools being widely used nowadays is social bookmarking, for it has worked wonders for many online business people. In order for you not to be left behind, you should learn how to social bookmark.
Here are 5 easy ways on how to social bookmark to boost your online business.
1. Register with several major social bookmarking sites.
Generally, the social bookmarking sites would only ask for your e-mail address, a user name, and a password in order for you to create an account. When you have successfully registered, familiarize how these sites work so that you can maximize their use.
2. Set up your profile.
Provide a brief description of yourself so that the other users can have a little idea of who you are, and you may post your picture. Be sure to include your interests and your field of expertise. It is important as users can follow your profile when they feel the need to contact you when they think that you can be a reliable source relating to your field of expertise. They may ask you for some information, and when you are able to make them feel that you are good at what you are doing, they can become regular visitors of your site.
3. Bookmark and tag your own site or pages with appropriate keywords.
Naturally, as an online marketer, you bookmark your own site or pages so that other users can see them. Generally, you will be asked to provide a URL and a short description of the site. You also have to categorize your bookmarks with appropriate keywords – do not mislead Internet users with wrong keywords. It will also help if you ask your family and friends bookmark your site, and ask them if their friends can bookmark your site, too.
4. Take advantage of social bookmarking submitters.
Social bookmarking submitters provide a service where you can submit your bookmarks to multiple social bookmarking sites. When you use this service, you do not have to go to each bookmarking site thus saving you time and effort. Good examples are Only Wire and Social Marker.
5. Be active in each bookmarking site's activities.
Show the social bookmarking community that you are interested to interact with them. Add friends. Comment and vote on other users' submissions, participate in forums and discussions once in a while. Take time to bookmark other sites, too. Your participation in these activities will not only create more exposure for you, but it will increase your credibility as a social bookmarker as well.
How to social bookmark may seem complicated at first, but the truth is it only requires plain common sense from you. Do not get of the intimidated of the technical terms associated with it, and start social bookmarking now.

Good basic info! You have to be careful with tools like SocialMarker etc. Google often punishes bookmarking that does not seem "natural", that is, like a human would bookmark. And "big brother" is getting better at it all the time!
