Learn How To Spend Wisely And Save: Live Within Your Means

Spending wisely is very important. As we are on the difficult times. You should keep in mind how much is your income and budget. Don't go spending beyond what you can afford. Live within your means. Self discipline and common sense plays a major part here. And only you, have the control on your own spending habit. Be responsible and wise when it comes to money spending.

Yes, anyone can spend money. But not so many of us truly spend it wisely. The art of prudent spending does not require advanced knowledge of the financial world, but discipline and a thorough understanding of needs versus wants is a must.

Here are my suggestions on how to spend money wisely:

1.) First and foremost, only spend for your needs. Know your needs from your wants. There's a big difference between the two. If you focus spending only for your needs or basic needs, then most likely, you can spend within your means and budget. Of course, you know what are your basic needs, like everyday food.

And another tips here, buy foods at the lowest prices in your local grocery store. Store prices varied. If not hassle, compare prices between stores if possible. Differences in prices means a lot. Compare vegetable prices, rice, fruits and everything.

2.) Don't spend too much on unnecessary things. Ask yourself, "Do I really need this?". Also, don't go to the mall frequently. Don't shop if you don't intend to buy. This is just the same with Author Josh Hairris book statement, "Don't date if you are'nt thinking of marrying yet."

Going to the mall, seeing all the store enticing products will tempt you to buy even if you don't really need it. There's a lot of temptaion in the mall in the sense of stuff.

In fact, don't keep buying shoes or clothes and others. Many people have collected clothes or shoes, belts, purses and more and just stocked them in their closet. And to some, they had only wear them once or twice because of their large collections. What's the point of collecting anyways if you can hardly use them. I remember a saying that goes, "A house is a four walls with full of stuff".

And some people, realizing they have enough of collections, they now find ways on how to get rid of them, by selling, either garage selling or yard sale! so there's no point of your collecting things, unless you donate those stuff to the less fortunate people.

If you really need new shoes or dress? Find the ones on sale. Look for clearances at stores or malls. If it's not hassle for you, compare prices between stores. And Look for "buy one, get one free" if they have. But avoid splurging too much at once.

Another very convenient store is "online store". Actually, many people do their shopping online! And I'm not exempted. Online shopping is so convenient, that, with just a click of the mouse, you can spend so easily and get into debt. Just keep your best interests in mind. Again, only shop online for what you think you really need.

3.) Accessories are costly sometimes but if you go to some malls or stores on holidays, stuff will be 50% off. Get all your stuff during holidays if possible. And if you really want to save big, and be creative, make your own purses, bags, wallets, cell phone and ipod cases by crocheting and knitting.

4.) Don't be too conscious on the latest fashion, fad or trend. Don't get carried away by the every new personal electronic adevertisement out there. They just want your money. Living up with the latest trend, fad or fashion will effectively get you into debt, especially if you are'nt able to pay them. Be content with your present cellphone, don't plan on getting a blackberry, unless you can really afford it and if you think you need it. But remember, save, as much as you can and spend wisely. Or, just be content with what you have. Peace of mind, reduces wrinkles.

5.) When looking for things you really need to buy like furnitures, tools and others, you can go to your local thrift store. You'll surely find treasures there! And at the same time, you can take part in helping the less fortunate people out there. You surely can spend wisely on the thrift stores. They have a wide collections of things, from furnitures, tools, gadgets and much much more. The possibilities are endless. You do not know what they have.

And there are many great and beautiful stuff in thrift stores because some people who are moving and could not sell their stuff through moving sale, will donate those unsold stuff in their local thrift store. And the price? unbelievable. My husband had recently bought a broyhill solid wood 7 drawers chest dresser for only $45. It's like brand new! no dents or any little chips or damages at all. And the exact brand new price of that in the store? is $400-$600. What a deal we just had!

You can also go to your Dollar store. It's a good store to shop if you want to spend less.

Another way to find deals is browsing the craiglist.com, you can find a lot of deals at craiglist. It's great because you can browse all the items "for sale" in your own local area. From there, you will know how people is trying to get rid of their collected stuff. Although some are simply moving.

6.) Lastly, but definitely not the least, as much as posible, don't get into debt. Credit cards is a very tempting tool to effectively ruin your credit record if you cannot pay your minimum credit card bill on a certain time. To be safe, spend through a debit card or cash,  No credit. No late fees. No over spending. Simple. Do not spend what you don't have.

So, spend wisely, think and discipline yourself in your compulsion to shop for your wants. And keep in mind to protect your credit, as this determines so much of your life nowadays.

Largely, we cannot depend upon the lending institutions to keep our best interests in mind. Inasmuch as is possible, keep emotion out of your financial decisions, and, at all times, be wary of that nasty human tendency known as greed!

Great Stuff! There is one rule I follow to stop cluttering my house:

For every new item that comes into the house, another one has to go. Following that rule makes me think again about buying another new thing I might not need, knowing fullwell that most of it ends up in the bin in the long run.

avoid the mall? c'mon. They seem to always have sales each weekend and it's not even a holiday. It is so funny, their sales gimmicks.

We made an average income; but we are entering a financially secure retirement because we learned to take care of our money when we were younger. Praise God that we learned early on that the borrower is a slave to the lender.
