Do you have a problem with snoring? Not only is snoring annoying to you and others in hearing range, snoring can also lead to health problems. Snoring can be a symptom of sleep apnea. Symptoms of sleep apnea include high blood pressure, heart problems, sleeplessness and a general feeling of irritability. To overcome snoring, address these individual health concerns.

Some people may have a problem with snoring when they sleep on their backs. Sleeping on your side (right or left) may ease this snoring problem. You can take a variety of measures to help ensure that you sleep on your side. Try placing a tennis ball in a sock and pinning it to the back of your pajama pants. The ball will force you to sleep on your side. Sleeping with your back against a large pillow will prohibit you from rolling onto your back.

Weight management is important to address when dealing with problem snoring. Overweight people can sometimes have fatty tissues in their neck and throat. These tissues put pressure on airways, causing restricted passages that hamper air flow. Restricted air flow can be a contributing factor to a snoring problem. Keeping in shape is a great way to combat problem snoring.

Check the level of humidity in your room. Dry rooms may lead to a dry throat, and a dry throat can aid the vibrating that causes snoring. Try setting a humidifier in your room to fix this problem. If you have a humidifier on your central heating, try turning it up. If your snoring problems abate, you may have a problem with a sore throat and dry mouth that leads to snoring.

Make sure that you are not abusing your body. Smoking cigarettes can lead to a snoring problem. People also snore after consumption of alcohol. Alcohol is a depressant. Like other depressants, it relaxes the muscles in your body, and does even more so when you are asleep. The muscles in your throat tend to be more relaxed after a night of drinking, which can lead to a serious snoring problem.

Sleeping pills may cause the same effects, with the muscle relaxant property possibly being responsible for the snoring issue. Anti-histamines that involve sedatives can also cause problems (except for those with the compound loratadine as an active ingredient). These snore-proof allergy treatments include Claritin and Alavert.

If you have allergies, treat them with a decongestant (as opposed to an anti-histamine). Take nasal decongestants to treat your allergies before bed. If you sleep well, you may have identified one of the reasons you snore.

These are some common areas to look at to possibly remedy your snoring problem. If these solutions do not solve the problem, further action may be required. You may have to get medical help (maybe even surgery) to treat your snoring problem. Check with your family doctor to investigate other remedies.
