Here are some tips to have a fulfilling and stress-free group work experience.
First and foremost, know all the group members. Know their names, their address and their contact numbers. This is very important because this is very much needed when communicating.
Communication is another key for a successful group project. Emails, instant messaging, and other type of communication is used for communicating. Class discussion forum can also used when you are going to be away in quite a period of time. Communication is best especially if you have a deadline to catch up. Through this, you would know how much work each group member has already done.
Do not be afraid to lead the group. Many group projects may need collaborative effort but someone still needs to lead the group. Shyness should be crossed out and you should stand as a leader. The role of the team leader is to start the conversation to all the members of the group. Once again conversation is done by communication.
Never procrastinate. You must learn how to coordinate with other members. Coordinate your efforts with the other member’s effort. This is very important. Never wait for the deadline before you coordinate with your team members.
Setting up intermediate deadlines is also important. This is very much needed aside from the final deadline. This can help the group members, especially the leader, to keep track of the member’s work. This can allow the member to provide feedbacks on the project parts to be able to have a good final project. The intermediate deadline is necessary when you divide the whole project into parts. Part two can never be started when part one could not be finished and the whole project would then be at stake.
Always use all the possible communication resources that are available near you. If possible one member should coordinate time where all the group members are available. Conference call can be used for quick and efficient communication. Collaboration of files and data can also be used to share them to the whole group.
Use each individual skill to the fullest. Maximizing the individual skills can be very helpful to have a successful group project. Take advantage of the strengths of each member. The one that is good in computer can do the computer works while grammar checking can be assigned to the one who is good in English.
The last and most important is trust and respect. Since you all belong to one group, you must trust each member of the group. You must respect the ideas and the ability of each member. If you trust and respect your group mates, you can learn from them and you can definitely submit a group project with pride.
We all know that group projects are not just found in the schools. Even in different companies, you can find lots of works that can only be done in group. In a company, one must learn how to coordinate with the whole group so that deadline can be met. The group work in a company is very serious because it can gain or loose a great company’s profit.
