How To Swing a Golf Driver - Stance and Grip

There was one stage in my golfing life that i couldn’t figure out why my buddies were better at golf than me. I knew how to swing a golf driver, but clearly not the right way! I mean i had the best accessories, the right pants the best golf clubs available but time and again I was finishing behind my friends. My pride stopped me getting to the bottom of the perfect golf swing problem for years, but now that I have, I can share this secret with you! Here is my Top Tips on exactly how to swing a golf driver!

1.    Stand with feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart. Line up parallel to the line you want the ball to go on. Your right foot should point perpendicular to this line. Your left foot should be 'open' a little bit, meaning it points a little forward.

2.    Bend knees slightly, with a relaxed flex.

3.    Bend forward at the waist, do not bend your spine. When holding the driver behind the ball, the tip of the shaft should be about a hand-width away from your body and pointing at your belt buckle.

4.    Keep your weight on the balls of your feet, not your heels.

5.    Keep feet, knees, hips, and shoulders square and parallel to the target line.

6.    Tilt your right shoulder back slightly to prepare for the backswing.

7.    Grip the club loosely in the base of your fingers, not your palms. Your right hand should be below your left hand.

8.    Interlock the pinky of your right hand with the index finger of your left hand.

How To Swing a Golf Driver - Backswing

1.    Bring the club back by rotating your shoulders from your back. Bring your arms, hands, and club back together as one unit.

2.    Keep your right knee stable. Don't move or bend it at all.

3.    You need to cock your wrists by the time you get halfway up your backswing.

4.    Minimize hip movement. Rotate from your spine and don't turn your hips back. This creates the resistance you need for power.

5.    Keep your head still throughout the backswing. Keep your eyes on the ball.

6.    Keep your left arm straight, but relaxed, and right elbow bent in towards your ribs.

How To Swing a Golf Driver - Downswing

1.    Start the downswing by rotating your shoulders forward, bringing your arms, hands, and club together.

2.    Straighten your right arm quickly. This helps to create a nice swing arc that will give you power and control.

3.    Rotate your forearms gradually throughout the swing. Don't snap your wrists just before contact, instead begin the rotation of your forearms early.

4.    Turn your hips towards the target. Now is the time to turn those hips. The hips need to turn before you come through with your arms and club.

5.    Swing through the ball, not at it. Your swing should continue smoothly even after contact.

How To Swing a Golf Driver - Follow-through

1.    Follow your swing naturally to a smooth finish.

2.    Your right foot will pivot on your toe as you finish your swing.

3.    Watch where your ball goes!
