Swine flu has turned from a minor annoyance into what has turned into what the world health organisation calls a "epidemic", though it has not gotten to the point where governments and airlines are cancelling international flights or banning people from flying it may happen soon. Whilst any flu is harmful for at risk people like senior citizens, pregnant women, and infants everyone should be looking out for the swine flu symptons because it can put you out of commision for a good amount of time. Most recently in the UK a 15 year old girl has died of swine flu in a Glasgow hospital so keep on the lookout.

The most people at risk of contracting swine flu as discussed before are people that are usually at risk of any type of infections. There are some indicatrs that you can look out for to ensure that you can check if your child has swine flu. If your child has any of the swine flu symptons please try to get emegency medical treatment as soon as possible.

Below are the list of symptons to look out for:

  1. Flu Symptons: The most obvious thing to look out for if you suspect your child has fallen victim to swine flu us any flu like symptons. The symptons for the flu virus are like many others. Look out for a high fever above 101 degrees that is followed by a cold. A persistant and worsening cough is also a sign of swine flu. If your child or baby is being treated for flu or cold and their cough continues to get worse it is a sympton of the swine flu virus.
  2. Rash: If a rash comes with the fever this is a sign that your child may have the swine flu infection. the child or baby may also have a blue color to their skin, this is a sign of lack of oxygen and requires immediate medical attention
  3. Stops taking fluids: if your baby or child refuses to take fluids or stops drinking liquids do not hesitate to rush them to the emergency room, as not only is it a sign of swine flu but dehydration in young children is also very lethal for young children. The danger of this sympton is greater if the child has diarrhea or is vomitting, please get in touch with a medical professional asap.
  4. Breathing Problems: If your child has a problem maintaining a regular breath or catching their breath get them medical help immediatly, the faster they get attention the better chances of reducing any adverse effects.
  5. Body aches: If your child acts like they are in pain when you hold them or they try to wriggle away because they feel uncomfortable it could mean that your child is in sever body pain. This is also a sympton that your child may be suffering from swine flu. If your child indicates that they may have body aches it would bea good idea to get them to a treatment facility immediatly.
  6. Not able to maintain eye contact: If your child is not maintaining eye contact or they appear to be flat in infection this is also a sympton of sever swine flu infection. Please take your child immediatly to get checked out.
  7. Will Not wake Up: If you are unable to wake your child call an ambulance immediatly. Swine flu is a deadly virus and can be treated by medications such as Tamiflu so getting your child treatment asap wil ensure that hopefullly they will come out of the situation unscatehed.

Swine flu is an epidemic and is likely to get worse before it gets better, it is a good idea to find out what the symptons are and to ensure that you check your child or infant does not display any of the symptons of swine flu.
