Planning a wedding does not have to be stressful or tension filled as portrayed on reality television. A couple’s wedding day is undoubtedly the most important day of their lives and should be one that they will both cherish with loving reflection.

Planning a wedding party takes time, energy and commitment to honoring the wishes of the two people who are getting married. Wedding parties can be as elaborate or as simple as the couple desires. The first thing to do is set a budget that everyone can comfortably live with. Selecting a theme is next. Wedding themes can be traditional, ethnic, or based upon the couple’s favorite vacation locale. Many weddings also take place at far away destinations. Island or beach weddings are very popular. Some couples choose to exchange vows at ski resorts or even in parks or national forests.

Regardless of the venue, it is important that the wedding theme have special meaning for the happy couple. Once the theme is identified, it is usually easy to plan decorations, menu, the wedding cake and favors. Even the colors and the attire of the bridal party can reflect the theme.

For example, a beaded gown with layers of lace and boning does not really fit a beach theme; nor would a bouquet of lilies of the field or roses. A less traditional gown with a bouquet of colorful tropical flowers would be more appropriate. Weddings with a Valentine’s Day theme are easy to plan. Selecting the colors is a cinch and Valentine decorations to fit any budget are easy to find.

If possible, try to stick with the chosen theme for all the events leading up to the wedding as well, beginning with the engagement party and including the bridal shower, the bachelor party and the rehearsal dinner.

I told him without hesitation. "And if you can't arrange to give me one boring day ...
