How To Train A Beagle
59Training A Beagle
Begin training your new Beagle once he is used to his new home. You'd like for her to learn the down, shake hands, or perhaps you simply wish that your new Beagle was housebroken.
Regardless of what you are hoping to achieve, you should use some of these Beagle training tips, particularly if you are a newbie to dog training. Enjoying her thoroughly is the first thing you should do. Secondly, it’s imperative that you expect the same behavior at all times and thirdly you have to express the same communication over and over until your dog knows what you expect her to do.
These are some tips to help you as you get started. Should you decide that you are interested in advanced training or you would like to polish up the skills that your dog has already learned then you should seek help from a skilled trainer in your area.
*Tip # 1
Have the time of your lives. You need to make training something to look forward to. A relaxed atmosphere, an upbeat attitude and lots and lots of treats is what will make training sessions successful.
No matter which training methods you choose to employ, you should approach training in a relaxed, easy going manner. The experience has to be enjoyable for you as well as your dog or he won't respond positively. We have found that spending quality time with your dog helps you to bond. The tighter the bond becomes with your Beagle the more likely she is to behave and respond well to training efforts.
*Tip # 2
When training, you must always provide consistency. Consistency and positive results pretty much go hand in hand. It is imperative to be consistent, which can be defined as repeating a behavior again and again until your dog learns command. You have to stick with one method when training your dog. Repetition is the key to instilling in your dog the behaviors you are trying to instill. So be consistent with the training and positive reinforcement until you see the desired result.
*Tip # 3
The third step in Beagle training shows you ways to teach your dog to understand your commands. Your dog cannot act according to your commands when he feels confused about what you are expressing. Dogs cannot readily perceive what your displeasure is, so patience is warranted until he catches on. It is so important to demonstrate the behavior you expect from your dog.
Example = The down. Starting in the sit position, take a treat and slowly bring it down to the ground and then forward. While doing this, lightly put pressure on the shoulder area and say down. Three or four times a day for a few days in a row and your Beagle will have a pretty good idea what down means.
Example = The shake. Take your Beagles paw in your hand (it is best to do this at a sit) and pump it up and down a few times while saying shake. Again, same thing as the down, three or four times a day for a few days in a row and she will get it.
If you stay positive, persistent, patient and repetitive, your dog will be trained faster than you ever thought possible. Find yourself a good dog training program and begin today. You will be glad that you did. Good luck with training your Beagle.
