A common problem with yeast infections is the misdiagnosis of the infection as being a bacterial one, and therefore receive a course of antibiotics for treatment of the infection. Although these treatments may not provide the sufferer with the desired results it is important that the underlying causes of their infection be looked at first. Examples of anti-fungal drugs which are used for the treatment of yeast infections include topical clotrimazole, topical nystatin and topical ketoconazole. For more severe yeast infections, the treatment offerred could be amphotericin B, caspofungin or voricanzole. Sufferrers can also be provided with local treatments such as vaginal suppositories or medicated douches.
