How to Unlock a Cell / Mobile Phone
This is How to Unlock a Cell Phone
Techniques for unlocking a cell phone vary between cell phone models and between carriers.
First thing to do is to simply Ask Your Carrier for the Unlock Code. Some carriers will tell your your unlock code and some won't. They will be more likely to tell you if your account is paid in full. Some carriers won't tell you if your service contract has expired. Other carriers will never ever tell you your unlock code under any circumstances...they are just ...ummm....jerks?
Here are some I know of.
Sprint refuses to provide unlock codes to ANY of their customers. (So, maybe just never use them!)
T-Mobile will provide unlock codes to customers after your subscription has been active for 90 days.
AT&T/Cingular CDMA phones are shipped already unlocked (BONUS!)
AT&T/Cingular will provide unlocking codes only for their GSM phones; I am completely uncertain why that is.
Nokia codes for some model phones can be discovered using the online calculator here at Nokia Free.
LG unlocking calculator website performs a similar service for LG cell phones as Nokia does.
The ultimate calculator does unlock codes for some Nokia, some Panasonic and some Siemens cell phones.
So if you have lucked out and they have given you the code, you then simply enter it into the phone on the cell phones keypad. Some providers are even able to unlock phones remotely over the air!
The calculation method really is a kewl little trick. Some providers use unlock codes which are calculated from the IMEI of the mobile telephone. IMEI stands for (International Mobile Equipment Identity) and is a unique 15 or 17 digit code used to identify an individual mobile station to a GSM or UMTS network. The IMEI number easily identifies a mobile phone being used on a GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) network.
The IMEI is also useful for stopping a phone that has been stolen from you being used. Cell phone owners that have their phones stolen can call their service carrier and ask them to shut the phone down using its IMEI number. With an IMEI number, the phone can be banned from service quickly and easily.
**** It is important to note that swapping a SIM card will not stop a phone from being shut down.
Some cell phone service providers use random unlock codes. These codes cannot be calculated.
Another tip to try.
If your cellular service provider won't help you and you cannot calculate the unlock code for your cell phone, you may be able to unlock your mobile phone with a clip. A clip is a cable that connects your cell phone to your computer. You can then install software onto your computer which will reprogram the cell phone and will remove the lock all together!
If all this still fails you, you are going to have to resort to using a service to unlock the cell phone for you. There are alot of these services online that will charge you a fee to unlock your phone for you. The fees vary but are usually not too high; much less than having to obtain another cell phone. Here is one such site as an example; there are many more.
Good luck!

sometimes unlocking a phone would provide a certain feature. I know that Rogers wouldn't let me load on any of my songs onto my phone without buying it from them first, so I unlocked the phone. There was an incident with a guy unlocking an iPhone, and the guys at Apple kicked up a big fuss. But in the end, I think they either worked out an agreement, or the guy started to work for them... I can't realy remember that particular piece.
It is legal. Simply because a maker of a cell phone does not WANT to give out the code does not make it illegal, nor are the people who provide the service doing anything illegal.
And for pete sakes! Isn't there more important things to worry about even if it WERE illgal; which it ISN'T!?
Another reason these sites only provide the unlock codes for *some* models is simply there are so bloody many variations of every phone it takes forever to log them all in.
And once again; THERE IS NOTHING WHAT-SO-EVER ILLGEAL ABOUT UNLOCKING A CELL PHONE!
i lose my securite code my phone is sagem my w8 please give a sollution.
I have just obtained a PILE of tracfone codes.
If anyone needs them, lemme know and I can email them to you.
I wonder if it would be wrong to post them??

damn this is good wut about to unlock U.S cellular contracts this girl stole my phone and put it on contract and i got my phone back but now its almost no good.pleaz help
I am not quite sure what you mean - she stole your phone and put it on a contract? How could she do that if the phone was not hers? I mean if it was *live* with your info??
There is something I must be missing in your note.
Yaco asked:

Did you get it back yet? Call the company; unless it is a 2nd hand phone - the place you bought it should be able to help you.
Hello
Hello back Emmanuel ;}
If you worked for the guys who make the money from these phones you'd wonder who is in the wrong - side of the law I mean
Maybe somebody should be doing something good for the environment like recycling these phones
People who have the phones sent for recycle often they just sell them on again as faulty and somebody fixes them
Not sure how recycling can out as a negative here...hummmm. I am ALL FOR IT 100%
Good techniques you had given to unblock cell phone. Its very nice information thanks for sharing valuable information.
You are very welcome Nancy :}
Thanks for the advice & tips, it means a lot
How about blackberry cell phone?
I just bought a tracfone LG225 and would LOVE to unlock it so I could place some decent ringtones on it any advice?
Not really - I don't know the answer to that or if you even can--I've never tried it with the ones I've had.
I Can tell you though (as you probably already know) - Tracfone's are totally untraceable.
They are what are called basically (referred to) as the greatest *dispoable* phone* - you can pick them up brand new on ebay for between 10 to 15 bucks AND you can also buy minute cards online at the tracfone website OR also ebay!
And the nice part is that it is So very Easy! Great for criminals; not so great for the victims!!

What I would wonder is if this is legal. If not why would you help those who owuld want to do this to break the law?
