How To Use Area Rugs
67A well designed décor theme can easily be brought together by an area rug. But remember to choose an area rug that fits your theme in color, size, construction, fabric and theme.
Use Area Rugs to Complete That Décor Theme
Creating a room in your home that is based on a decorative theme can be slightly difficult if you don't know how to finish off the design. It may be that one, exquisite piece of furniture like a special bookcase, a chair or a grandfather clock. Or the answer could be as simple as a beautiful area rug that completes the theme and ties all ends of the room together and the center. But chosen incorrectly, an area rug can also create imbalance in your room and your theme, so it's important to choose wisely.

Area Rug Color
Color choice is extremely important when you're selecting an area rug to go with your decorative theme. A lot of people buy on impulse and with rugs this can be extremely devastating because you'll buy what you like in the store, not what actually matches your color scheme at home.
Others buy an area rug that is the "perfect" colors and promise to build the room around it. This is also a mistake because you should never try to build a room around one certain piece as this is a virtually impossible task to accomplish.
Don't be afraid of color - a bright blue area rug can look smashing so to can a beige area rug it all depends on your room and the atmosphere you want to create.
Area Rug Size
The size of your area rug should be proportionate to the size of the room and the layout of the furniture. Every theme is managed by the location and setup of each complementary piece and an area rug that is too large can throw off the balance. The same occurs if you replace an area rug with an accent rug that is far too small for the area. Remember, each piece should be complementary-a rug that is too large will overwhelm your theme and a rug that is too small will under whelm your theme, and will stick out like a sore thumb.

Area Rug Theme
When you're shopping for an area rug, you should always bring a piece of your décor or a picture of the room with you. You say you'll remember, but the moment you get home with that modern Victorian rug and lay it down in your antiqued Victorian room, you'll find that you have made a huge mistake...and who wants to cart a huge area rug back to the store and have to start the search all over again. Be sure that the theme of the area rug you're purchasing matches the theme of your room or you're sure to be disappointed.
Area Rug Construction/Fabric
Many people overlook the fabric and construction used in the making of the area rugs they're purchasing. But this component has an extremely noticeable effect on the look and feel of your room and your décor. A shag area rug, for instance, would look appropriate in a more laid back room, but could be horrific in a pristine room that's made up geometric shapes and lines.
