How To Use Social Networking For Business Marketing Profits
80How to "do" Social Networking?
Marketing For Business Profits
To sum it briefly, you should define your audience, locate your potential customers, build a social relationship with them and promote your brand and website. What you choose to do on these sites depends on what your business needs.
Social Networking How To's
In most communities it is recommended to not start out by promoting your brand or website. If you start out by “spamming” you are likely to get kicked out of that social community. The site administrators will most likely ban you from returning. Being too direct in your sales pitch could also scare people away. So, think passive, think indirect...help people with "how to's" "why's". Listen, share and be humble. Bragging about the money are making is not going to win you friends.
What is the next step? Be yourself, be human, open up a little and show people who you are. Tell them your story and focus on things that may help you stand out. Visit communities that interest you personally and get involved.
While initiating contact on social media sites is great, it is just as important to continue to keep in contact. Don’t just start something and not finish. For example, starting posts on a blog is great, but you need to show people you are not just visiting, but are there to listen to them. When people add comments in response they might need a response from you. If available, follow or subscribe to the hot feeds that you have contributed to.
Make a video of you living your life and just being you instead of doing promotional video's about your product. Add a link to your website at the end. That is not to say that you are not able to promote your business, just be creative and add value to the site instead of treating it like a direct advertising platform.
Take advantage of the widgets supplied by most of these sites and post them on your website/blog. Yet another way for people to find you and also makes the most of the viral nature of a community based site.
How to know if it is working
The obvious indicators are traffic and sales, however for the more ‘hardcore’ marketer there is analytic software which allows goals to be set up and monitors conversion rates. If you plan to build your social networking fast, map out a campaign tracking system first. Spend some time planning this from the beginning and you know exactly where the results are coming from and where to invest your time. The most important thing is the ‘doing’ part. So the sooner you get signed up the better!

Let’s take a bit of time looking at the three main Social Media Marketing arena’s.
Social Media Networks: These include sites such as Facebook, Myspace and Beebo. These are online communities where friends can interact and share information with each other. The naturally viral nature of these online social networks can be used to your business ‘s profit.
Social Bookmarking: Social Bookmarking sites is a bit like your "favourites list" on your web browser. But, instead of keeping this list on your computer for just you to see, it is stored on a website where your list can be "tagged" with your specific keywords and crawled by the search engines.
Social Media Sharing : includes sites such as YouTube and Google Video. Users upload video’s or photo slide shows. These applications can bring a flood of new website traffic to your website and improve inbound links to your content.

"Secrets to Social Marketing 2.0"
There is no secret out there. Good quality consistent content spread around the web pointing to your site is all it takes to build a massive traffic network. Most of the so-called "social media" marketing books available are incomplete and vague - very theory based (no meat and potato’s!) Don't let those ‘Special Offers’ get in the way of you running a profitable business. Seek out people who are willing to spend some time with you answering your questions and steering you in the right direction. Contact me via the hub pages contact link and I’d be happy to help in any way I can.

I did a lot of research before putting hands to keyboard to write this page and one thing really surprised me. When I googled the terms “social network marketing” & “social media networking” combined with the exact term of “how to” there is less than 40,000 results for each. What does that mean? Is this a niche waiting to be discovered? No I don’t think so! Using social sites as a marketing technique is no secret....many leaders in the industry are teaching it and have done so for quite some time. So why then are there so few search results listings on information about “how to”? There is two reasons and they are both very simple.
- No one else can tell you how to be yourself.
- Social sites are evolving in nature, they change from day to day thanks to the contributions of it’s members – this is why they are so successful. As the platform evolves constantly, so should you approach to using this medium!

This is great! I know I need to get social, but it is all so confusing and easy to lose track of why I am blogging in the first place. Thank you so much for the good info.
Excellent info! Thanks so much :) I like that you said that there is no "secret" to all of this. So true.
Thanks Fisher & Amy Jane
Fisher - remember this sentence..... "Good quality consistent content spread around the web pointing to your site is all it takes to build a massive traffic network."
It takes time.....so stick with it.
Thumbs up on this Hub! Great information, and I will be checking back to re-read this one.

Shaye, great first hub! No need to ever fear clicking that "publish" button.
The Mission Impossible clip is a hoot. Having spent 25 years in internal corporate communications as an employee, a manager, and then an independent consultant, I know how hard it is to give others an understanding of what I do. And for sure, it's not selling hats. Once I learn more about social network marketing, I'll use my internal corporate communications skills to try to meet your one-sentence challenge!
I got a lot out of this hub and I'm looking forward to reading more.
Thanks a bunch Sally's Trove that is always great to hear. The Mission Impossible video inspired the one sentence challenge & I'd love to get some responses on that

Your welcome 22jakes22.
Great hub! Tell you what, being able to use social marketing sites is great. What I hate most is spam, you know the constant emails about this, that or other product....gosh! Well that is certainly not the way to build a successful business! Thanks for the information!
Hi Patkadmak, I am not sure which site sends you tons of emails? A good way around that is to open an email account seperate to your main one and register/update your details with the offending member site. Then all you need do is remember to log in every now and again to clear it out. Thanks for sharing your thoughts : )Shaye

Hi I just thought you might be interested in a new social network http://blog-marketing-network.ning.comCheck it out and let me know!
Thanks for sharing your network enlightenup
I got a chuckle out of your keyword research. I came up with the same results last fall when I named my new eBook (which, by the way, offers no "secrets" to generating massive wealth).
I was drawn to social network marketing because I am tight-fisted and I wanted to be sure I was going to still be enthusiastic about internet marketing months later.
I am!
It is great to hear you are still interested and motivated Elaine. Congrats on the ebook!
I was thinking, even if you do join the many social networking sites, two challenges pop up in my head: first, how do you manage to have the time to keep updating those many facebook/linked-in-like sites; and second, how do you know how much traffic and conversions (sales) your SNS efforts give you? I'm an Internet marketing enthusiast and I'm always curious. :D
Hi Robert, thanks for the questions & you make a very good point. Making you way around all the sites and visiting them regularly can be challenge as you join more and more social sites.
I have found that the use of widgets is a great way to link up and update your pages with recent updates. An example of this would be on your facebook, myspace & others pages you can add a twitter application so that when you make posts on twitter, a live feed adds the comment to facebook etc. Using widgets to burn feeds of sites like feedburner work well for this sort of information sharing too. There are also web based applications you can use to send updates to multiple sites, like http://www.twhirl.org/
Using google tracking is one of my main traffic traffic tools. When I post information that links back to a main website this works well for tracking traffic stats but tracking conversions I find a little harder. While it's not an exact science I also use individual tracking links for certain campaigns so that I can keep tabs on how much traffic/sales is generated by campaigns that I pay for. Another way I gauge sales conversions is to use a opt in form that contains a question about how the person found my site. Of course, I also find that asking for feedback from the clients I sell to also works....where I can I phone them and ask 'how did you find me/my products?" "how have you found it?" .... " is there anything I can do to help you?"
Nice article :) great research i must say..
You can also use an application like TweetDeck to manage your Twitter and Facebook accounts. We've have our Twitter set up to be able to crosspost to our Facebook by simply adding an "#fb" to the end of our tweets (Selective Twitter Status). It works very well.
