Resume

It seems finding a job is getting harder and harder these days.

In order to get the job you want you have to impress the boss. You need a nice resume that will tell them why to hire you!

Something Different

Do something a little different.

Make your resume stand out. I'm not talking about handing them a hot pink piece of laminated paper, I mean more like an entire 3 prong folder!

CD/DVD

Make a CD or DVD to include with your resume. It does not have to be all that fancy, just you in a nice dress shirt talking about your past, present, and future relating to this job. Tell them why you deserve the job and why you would be the "best" pick for the job.

Note I said the "best" pick. Don't say; "I think I would be the best pick because..." say: "I would be the best pick because..." No "I think" crap! Tell them that you would be the best! Tell them that you "deserve" the job, not that you "think" you deserve the job.

"I deserve this job because...."

"I'm the best pick for this job because..."

You have to show them that you are confident in yourself and that you really want the job.

Do this all on a nice CD or DVD. You pretty much want to summarize your entire resume in this CD/DVD.

Website

Next make a webpage for your resume. This doesn't have to cost you anything, you can get a free website on www.webs.com it will have a "www."yoursite".webs.com URL but it will still help you stand out and look professional.

Make a webpage that includes all of your resume's information on it and more!

Include a link to the video you made for your resume on your website as well.

If you want to seem more professional you can buy a URL from www.godaddy.com. Make your URL something nice like www."yourname".com or www."yourname's"resume.com

Folder

Make a nice cover page for your 3 prong folder, and inside include all of the following information.

Put the pages of your resume in the middle of your folder(in the prongs).

Put your CD/DVD in the front pocket.

Table Of Contents

The first page in your folder should be a table of contents. Include all of the pages of your resume IN ORDER!!!

Make sure you put everything in the right order!

Start Out With

Start your first page of your resume with:

-Full Name
-Home Phone
-Cell Phone
-E-mail
-Address
-Birthdate/Age
-Website URL

Take some time and make this page look "pretty," but professional at the same time.

Little things like changing the font type can help make your resume stand out!

About You

Write about yourself. Tell why you are qualified for this job, why you would be the best pick for this job, why you want this job, and your future plans including this job.

State where you would hope to go with this job wether it's to become the manager or the owner tell them your thoughts.

Experience

Now talk about your past experience.

Many people only include things that have to do with this job, but that is not necessarily the best thing. You should include ALL of your experience wether it has to do with this exact job or not.

The more experience you have in life the better. This will show them that you will be a good, intelligent, employee.

Include anything that may qualify for you a job. Things such as; "I took a construction class for 4 years in high school," and "I also took business systems and technology for 3 years."

Even high school classes will help. Include anything and everything!

Education

On this page you want to include all of your previous schools starting at high school and the date(s) you attended.

You also want to state either "attended," "attending," or "graduated." If you did drop out for any reason you should simply state "attended."

Example:

Education:
-Graduated South East High School 2004-2008
-Attending Florida State University 2008-Present

Certifications

State any and ALL certifications that you have accumulated, even if they are not directly related to this job.

An example is this:

I attended and completed a 30 hour OSHA class and have an OSHA certified card.

References

Don't make the mistake of including friends and family as references. Of course if they call your parents or best friend they are going to say, 'yea he's a great guy!"

On your resume you want to include any and ALL previous employers, as well as your landlord(s), and any finance companies(such as for a car loan).

Your employer will be pleased with all of the references you have included and to see that NONE of them are family or friends!

Conclusion

Check over everything on your resume.

Make sure there are no spelling errors.

Make sure everything is professional. Add special characters, pictures, etc. but don't make it "too flashy."

Make sure everything is in the right order in your folder.

Add any other pages that you think you should tell the employer.

When you hand in your resume ask the employer to please contact you wether they are interested or not. Also, when you go into the work place dress nicely and let them know you are serious and really want this job.

Take your resume very seriously, take some time when making it. If you slack off on your resume why would any employer expect you to do better on the job?

Good luck!
