HubPages Writing Can Improve Your Website Page Rank...Learn How
HubPages Writing Can Improve Your Website Page Rank...Learn How

Stop! - Before you start to think.....this is just not my thing and I don't really understand page rank, google, backlinks and all the other technical jumbo - stop a minute. I promise this Hubpage will be simple and easy to understand, as that's how I understand it myself! I am not an SEO or page rank expert and my depth of knowledge has much developing still to be done.

In this Hubpage you will find information about how writing at hubpages can increase your google page rank. But before we can delve into the deeper issues of how this is achieved, you must first have an understanding of some simple search engine terms and concepts. You will be walked through understanding terms such as one way links and back links, and how they fit into the overall page rank puzzle.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you like the big picture point of view on complex areas such as google page rank......then, you'll love my HubPages.
If you like practical steps and 'how to guides' then we've got you covered there also.
Once you have an appreciation for this strategy, you'll be amazed at how easy it can be to improve your website's google page rank and traffic using writing sources such as Hubpages, articles and blogs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Just Some Reasons Why I Love HubPages

The other day, while I was sitting here writing another hubpage - I had one of those moments where something just falls into place.

It was one of those moments where the world slows down and then for a moment everythings else stops. Ok well maybe I am building this up as a bigger than ben her revelation - but for me that's exactly what it was.

I'd just finished a Hub on How To Write A Search Engine Friendly HubPage, and was listening to a training call on Internet Marketing Strategies. My mind was still churning around on the subject of HubPages and how fantastic they are.

You see, since discovering this website the number of articles I am writing has dropped off dramatically. I still do blog posts to promote my business but in a way HubPages had started to replace the time I'd have previously spent on articles. At Hubs you get to be far more creative with your choice of source links, references, images not to mention all the other fun back office stuff like viewing traffic stats etc...hang in with me, we'll get to the page rank part soon....

I decided to get my notepad and write a list of reasons why I'd started writing articles in the first place. I came up with the following list of reasons....

  • traffic
  • list building
  • back links
  • branding
  • niche expert positioning
  • google listings

While I can get all of that from writing articles, I can also get that at HubPages - but personafied. Then I remembered learning about powerlinking in a internet marketing class I had taken. At the time of taking the class, I understood the principals of why and how powerlinking worked, but failed to get a deeper understanding of HOW to put that strategy into effect for my business.

I am the type of person who likes to have a list of 'TO DO' tasks otherwise I start to loose focus. Give me a step by step guide and I can achieve pretty much anything. (I sure wish my husband could be the same when it comes to reading instructions prior to putting together flat pack items! - but I digress....)

Here is where it get's interesting....I realsied that if I linked all of my source writing together to promote my website, Google would notice and in the long term it would improve my page rank and organic search engine traffic.

Below is a photo of the scribble I made on my note pad as I sat at my desk.

My Hasty Map
My Hasty Map

I was so excited by my little drawing, that I got out the kids craft box and took out a piece of A3 size drawing paper, grabbed a highlighter and set to working on a bigger version of my scribble.

I triied as best I could to draw my mental image on the paper - step by step.

Trying to work out if my idea was right or had I missed something?

The Dot Point Arrows Represent One Way Links, The Double Ended Arrows Represent Two Way Links
The Dot Point Arrows Represent One Way Links, The Double Ended Arrows Represent Two Way Links

Understanding And Improving Google Page Rank

  • So how does this all fit together?
  • Why was I so excited by my drawing?

Before I get on and answer those questions, here is some information on basic terms and concepts you should have an understanding of.

Understanding Google Page Rank - The Basics

Here is a brief search engine 101 terminology summary that should help you understand how this all fits together.

What Is Google Page Rank?

Google page rank is goggles assessment of the importance of your website. Put very simply, it is a score given to the page by google on a scale of 0 through to 10. 0 being the lowest (worst) score and 10 being the highest (best) score.

What Are One Way Links?

A one way link is a connection from one site to another that points in one direction only.

What Are Two Way Links?

Two way links occur when one page points to another and the link is returned. When two sites are linked to each other and point to each in return, this is a TWO way link.

What Is A Backlink?

A backlink is another term used to describe a one way link. Generally the terminology is used in SEO terms when a website points to yours when there is no reciprocal (two way) link pointing back.

How To Advice

  1. Write an article that links to your website.
  2. Create a hubpage that links to your website and article.
  3. Write posts to your blog/s that link to your HubPage.
  4. Write posts to your blog/s that link to your Article.
  5. Make a press release that links to your website.

By this stage you have multiple one way links pointing to your website. The more articles, HubPages etc that you create, the better.

Articles are particularly fantastic ways to generate one way links as other website owners who need content may publish your articles and the more often this happens the more one way links you have pointing to your web page.

Using HubPages like articles is a wonderful way to monetize your content creation and a fun way of building links. Create a network of articles that promote your HubPages and the more traffic you will get to both your HubPages and website. The more links you create, and then the better your Google search engine listings and page rank.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some Factors That Effect Your Websites Google Page Rank
Some facts about SEO and page rank;
  • One way links pointing towards your site are weighted the highest by Google in terms of contributing to your pagerank
  • Two way links generally mean your websites compliment each other in terms of information.
  • Content - quality, relevance, uniqueness and freshly updated content all factor highly into Google page rank calculations
  • Backlinks
Write Keyword Relative Content
As I often write about, any good content starts with good keyword research.
Choose the keywords and keyword strings that you want to target. Your targeting process should include factors like target audience and the type of competition you are up against to reaching said audience.
The staff here at HubPages have enhanced the site to include a keyword suggestion's as you create your content, and I highly recommend using this tool.
Here is some free handy keyword suggestion tools to get you started with your keyword research;
How To Promote Your Website With HubPages
Here is how I choose to look at it...
Hubpages are already search engine friendly with regards to being listed on Google.......of course you can always write a search engine friendly hubpage v's one that is not going to be as tasty to the SE's - they seam to be gobbling up hubpages right now and loving it - HubPages must be low cal cause Google doesn't seam to be slowing down on the binge!
So instead of writing at hubpages to directly promote your website or marketing/business opportunity, use it as a tool to increase your traffic thought the use of the Google listings, links function and the boost that interlinking your hubpgaes, sites, articles and blogs can give you . Write informative, funny, even funnily stupid hubpages on topic in your niche. Develop your own writing style and brand yourself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Summary Of HubPages & How They Can Help Build Your Page Rank

At the end of the day, publishing at HubPages can only strengthen your search engine ranking and exposure.

The guys that run the show at HubPages have presented you with an online platform for content generation that is search engine friendly and optimized. Google the search engine, will index any content you publish within a matter of days.

The more original content you publish that is meaningfull and well constructed and points to your website/blog in going to help improve your page rank.

Try out some other places to write content that can help increase your google page rank, such as;

No matter where you choose to write and submit your content, remember that first comes....QUALITY. If you are writing garbage, then no one will want to read it.

The more, I check around HubPages, it seams that I am not the only one who has discovered the power of using hubpgages!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some More Tips To Take Away!
  • Articles
Write as many as you can and as often as you can. Then publish them on quality article directories.
  • Blogs
Regular posts to blogs will help generate traffic to your website.
  • Social Bookmarking
By the use of social bookmarking sites, you can organically increase your google page rank and traffic. Be active on these sites, build friendships by joining groups and promote your content and others on the site. This is also a great way to get your content listed FAST on the the search engines.
Great hub - I like the way you break it down. I've also been writing a series of hubs on SEO and the more people who are non-technie who share this kind of information, the better off we all are. Seeing things in plain English is a great help. All the best!
Hi...this is very interesting albeit thought provokin - but have you tested it out ?? you have to change the articles by atleast 20% , if you plan in writing here and at squidoo, ezinearticles and the rest. Mainly because, these are places where the article goes straight to the top of the search engines and duplicacy is noted. As hubpages, as well as the others are particular that they would preferrably like unique content, you may have to re-write those articles before submitting. Once you have identified the main source (say hubpages), the rest of the sources would all need to be changed by about 15% with some new and connecting keywords included... it definitely improves ranking, but it has to be regular..
My training confirms this, but also stresses out google loves blogs and rss feeds. These aret the best and faster ranking building methods, next to getting a backlink on a high ranked website.
Keep on hubbing.
@ Cindy - thanks for that, I would definitely call myself non-technie and try and write to that audience. I will go and check out your hubs on SEO.
@ LondonGirl - appreciate your comment, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.
@ affiliater - great comment, thanks for giving me that chance to share a little more. I always try my best to write original content. Most times, I take one article and turn it into a number of articles on the same/similar topic and submit them to various places. There has been times where I have submitted the same article to different articles directories as I figure, if others sites are going to publish my content then isn't that the same as duplicate content?-don't do that too often though. Would you recommend I update the page to stress the point of original as well as quality content as I would like to get that message across to my readers?
@ eovery - that's great to read, thanks. As Hubpages uses RSS feeds and work a little like blogs, this is yet another reason they rock! I use the RSS of HubPages in widgets on my blogs and have even burnt it and submitted it to RSS directories in the past. Do you do that too?
affiliater profile image
affiliater  says:
You would first have to conduct an SEO exercise.
First list the articles on the left and the directories, you plan to submit on the right. Underneath each artile, you write the prominent keywords. For example, if it is a niche site, find all the possible keywords that are related and begin researching them.
Firstly, explain, which major industry is your product or service and describe the niche area. Then describe your product or service and what problem does your product/ service solve. Next, what is the vision for your product/ service and who are the target customers for the product or service, and what do these target customers want from your product or service. Note buying points related to the product or service, the customer fears and frustrations related to your product or service, what customer satisfaction does the product or service fulfill. Then write down the other product/ service benefits that the customer is unaware of and whether there are any objections to your product or service. Finally 3 major topics that surround the product or service. Finish off with this, to learn more about my product/ service; you can download the “XYZ” book for free. Or you can CLICK HERE to read more articles on product or service strategies.
Follow this strategy in each article, then I guess you have a winner. But you must write these points down, before commencing and writing a “school essay” instead of an optimized article.
In each article, there will be a subtle change as well as a link - you'll be surprised to note the turnout.........best
Wow Ashley, isn't it great when that happens? You must be feeling pretty confident right about now : ) By using a different main keyword/keyword string each 'round' of linking your listings will grow - but you know it is even ok to use very similar ones more than once.
I wouldn't put two links from the same hubpage (to my article submission and to my website). That's because I don't want google to figure out that it's only one person who is building all those links for the website. Google needs variety of sources. If it thinks there are many people who submit content that links to a certain website, it will rank that website higher.
@ gabrieltulio, thanks for stopping by. Good luck in the comp!
@ Anamika S glad to read you will be writing more.
@ thejimster thanks for your balanced comment :) I guess it's best always remember not to overlink from one hubpage to a website in the same content....for me I tend to work in the school of thought that good original content published regularly linking back to the website and as google craves content like that too, then it can't be all bad in the end. I don't envisage that any of my websites will ever go past a PR 3 or 4! : )
I submit my articles to Ezine Articles, Go Articles, and many other directories, and I know that at this moment in time the duplicate content scare is a "MYTH"
I know this because I submit all of my articles to the popular directories without any changes to my content.
"think about it for a minute"
Article Directories are the biggest source of duplicate content on the Internet and none of them has been punished by Google.
I think that you should concentrate on writing good quality content, with a KEYWORD researched headline because that is how your article will be ranked by google.
Make sure that your article has between 500 to 800 words max and you will get much better quality backlinks and search engine rankings
It's nice to find people that have the kind of advise "that's to the point" on how to get more traffic. It's a dog eat dog world out there and to get a piece of the pie it'll take good advise and a lot of hard work.
I'm very new to the Hubpages and linking to my website "New Rave Products" https://www.cafepress.com/newrave
I don't understand how to make or post blogs yet, probably because I spend so much time building my "New Rave Products" website.
If anyone out there has some "to the point" advise for me I would very much appreciate it.
Thank you.
aren't the links on hubpages a no-follow link; less valued by google? press-release links to website are follow links; therefore more valued by google?
I'm new to this, but I was told by experienced people that press releases or other blog sites already high in page rank are the best links to your website.
Not that hub pages doesn't help, but it is not the strongest link to your website.....right? or is it....I'm trying to learn...
Very interesting (even with all the typos and spelling mistakes :-)]. But after reading your How to section and all the other comments (such as Marisuewrites')above, I'm confused.
You say 1) write an article 2) write a hub page that links to your article.  So these are two different articles (one on Ezine Articles, for example, and one on HubPages, each 100% original) and you link them together, and link them both to your website?
If so, I'm with you so far.
Ezine Articles will take repurposed pieces that overlap some with other articles, but HP won't. They might not tell you your being penalized for "duplicate content" but you are, even if only 1/3 of an article overlaps with material published elsewhere. I just experienced that. So the articles must not duplicate anything in the other article.
Am I right?
And then you post blog posts and PRs telling people that the articles are on EA and HP? This part makes sense to me.
But, earlier, you'd said you don't post articles much any more, just to HubPages? Actually, you said, "since discovering this website the number of articles I am writing has dropped off dramatically. I still do blog posts to promote my business but in a way HubPages had started to replace the time I'd have previously spent on articles."
Doesn't that contradict the "write two articles, one for ? and one for HP" advice, or am I missing something?
I've read the hub twice, and still can't get it clear. I'll keep reading it, but would like your explanations. Thanks!
Great hub and a great subsequent discussion.
I had an interesting exchange of ideas with hubpages on this subject! (Just in case you were wondering hubpages won). I had a major three part article I wrote and published on ezine articles, just before I joined hubpages.
Not being fully aware of the dup content rules I put the artcile up on hub pages (as one mega long hub), but got "busted" for duplicate content (very quickly).
My argument was that it was completely my own work and written from my own mind and published as such on ezine articles and why shouldn't I be allowed to publish my own content at hubpages even if I have published elsewhere.
However, hubpages held firm so I had to re-write for hubpages.
Therefore I would poltely suggest that the two way link between article sites and hubpages needs to have a "time stagger" in favour of hubpages :>)
I believe if you publish first on hubpages and then go out to the article sites you can "get away" if that's the right word, with out making too many changes.
However, I think it is better to be unique on each platform. I have now got quite adept at "spinning" (I don't like that phrase) my content to cover the same subjects but in a totally different way - all good fun and the traffic results are well worth it.
Keep these great hubs coming - thanks.
