DIY...Home Improvement..How Tom Fixes Things...I Think?
60When I first married Tom, my washer broke--he worked on it for about three hours, and a six pack. I was amazed, but it worked! He had taken a lamp apart, and somehow made a bushing for the pulley. It was noisy, but it worked!
Not long after that, the brakes went out in our car. Tom said that the plunger wasn't pushing far enough down, and was worn out. So he took a part off of his electric guitar and he said it fit perfectly! We drove the car like that for months, with no problem. Tom finally had it fixed right, though...
Anytime I ask Tom to fix something, he grabs three things: duct tape, vise grips, and beer.
Tom keeps an abundant supply of drywall scews on hand at all times...they are in his tool closet, in our car, in our truck, in our drawers...you get the idea! He has a Makita bit driver--he takes it everywhere he goes...I think I caught him hugging it once, but so far, I haven't heard him whisper Makita in his sleep...yet.
When we lived in Nashville--there were two pair of vise grips on the bathtub faucets. The one with duct tape on it was "HOT". The light quit working in the kitchen, so Tom took an extension cord, and a small lamp, and fastened it to the ceiling with drywall screws...it looked kinda funny with the lampshade upside-down...but it worked!
Almost all of our kids' toys had duct tape or drywalll screws in them at some point or other. Tom not only fixes things with duct tape, he also improves them, as you can see in the pic of our remote controls...
Tom has gotten so handy with these kind of fixes, that my dad told me that anytime he goes to repair something now, he stops and thinks "Now What Would Tom Do?"
It amazes me, the things Tom has fixed that have ACTUALLY worked--of course, he calls himself a GENIOUS after every project--and I say "Yes.....genious"........
Here are some of his repairs...I will add more as Tom fixes more things around the house...
