Great tips Darlene!

I find that using a debit card to track expenditures is easier than dealing with a bunch of receipts.  I have been gradually shifting to this system.

Almost every day I tell my clients to track what they spend. I have found Mint.com to be very effective (I love the budgeting feature and that it tracks everything I spend). Also, verifying receipts against your online statement can help correct errors quickly instead of later.
