Not Another Birthday!

I have just experienced yet another birthday! The whole idea of celebrating your birthday with happiness and presents and fun etc completely eludes me. I usually avoid all birthday celebrations of all types. I mean, celebrating that you are getting older and closer to your unavoidable doom just seems wrong to me. That aside, getting old is something we are all faced with. All our firm and tight bits are going to become soft and floppies and things we once found easy to do will become mammoth tasks. I know I am not painting a pretty picture here... I digress.

My top 8 list of things to watch out...for if you notice them,,, you KNOW you are getting old...and probably way too responsible to admit too.

1. Noticing the no-name brand dishwashing liquid is just not of the same "quality" as Sunlight.
2. You find yourself waking up at 5am on a Saturday morning instead of just arriving home.
3. There are certain times of the day when its either "too early" or "too late" for some things
4. The Karma Sutra is now just a book that lies dusty on a bookshelf.
5. You are easily conned into buying cat litter for a ridiculous R90 a bag and are then shocked to discover it is not "miracle litter" as promised by the seller.
6. You start thinking of yourself as "still so young" when you reach certain ages you previously viewed as "gorrr! that's so old!!!"
7. When your heart skips a beat, you fear its failure rather than suspecting you are just a little excited.

On the up side...as time passes we receive passage to certain rights that our parents and grandparents have long since enjoyed. We are now (well not just yet for me) able to torture our children through hours of tales of how we toiled and walked km's and km's to school. We can now count on receiving much deserved discounts on groceries. Everything can be blamed on memory loss, aching joints and simply old age AND you stand literally zero chance of being KIDNAPPED.

Now isn't that something to look forward to? :p

As the week draws on and I see only another 364 days till the next birthday I can only shudder to think what old age has in store for me. At least I will have those nearest and dearest to me to experience it with ;)
