How and Why to Make and Drink Green Beer
70St. Patrick’s Day is coming and you don’t want to be caught without a frosty mug of green beer! This article gives tips for making green beer, as well as making a case for drinking the stuff!
Top 5 Reasons to Drink Green Beer
I think we can all agree that green beer is not really Irish, but a silly Americanzed way to celebrate a holiday that – let’s face it – has become more about drinking and revelry than any supposed controversial saint. The purists will still argue that a good Guiness is superior to green beer, but why not take advantage of a good reason to celebrate? Green beer just facilitates that!
Green Beer is festive.
Drinking green beer says ‘I’m game. I’m a party faced trooper and I never say die.’ So be a trooper not a party pooper. By contrast, your refusal to drink green beer is a banner that says ‘Don’t play with me, I’m no fun!’
Green beer prevents hangovers.
The unappetizing look of green beer is a natural deterrent to drinking too much. Stick to the emerald suds and you’ll likely drink less, resulting in a clearer morning commute.
Green beer matches your outfit.
You are wearing a full-on green ensemble come March 17th, right? Right? Do not be without the ultimate accessory - a mug full of green – for the perfectly coordinated St. Patrick’s day outfit.
Your mother wouldn’t drink green beer.
There are few things your mother would enjoy less than watching her precious child imbibe the green stuff. So c’mon, everybody’s doing it! Assert your independence by chugging a few.
Green beer goes with Irish drinking songs.
You don’t want to be the odd one out when the mugs start swinging. Festive beer is the easiest way to fit in, especially if you can’t sing!
How to Make Green Beer
It’s easy to make this St. Patrick’s Day traditional beverage at home with nothing more than the right beer and some food coloring. Enjoy!
First, choose the beer. Lighter is better as the color will show better.
Next, add a few drops of green food coloring (or blue if your beer is really yellow) to an empty mug. For 12 ounces of beer you’ll need 5-6 drops food coloring. You can also use blue cuacao liquor to color if you don’t want to use food dye. This gives a sweet taste to the beer.
Finally, pour your beer. (It’s important to add the coloring agent first so that you don’t have to stir the beer.
That’s it!
Now all that’s left is to choose a proper Irish toast to drink to!

So easy, I was expecting a much more complicated recipe :)
I never thought of using blue cuacao!! Great idea!! I'm not a huge fan of beer, usually, and this might make it go down a little smoother.
I love the hangover prevention tip lol :) I will have to try the blue cuacao liquor too Thanks
As a true Irish guy, I have never touched a green beer. You have made a good case for it though, so I may try one and toast to you! That's hysterical about your mom not liking it!
