I have heard this arguement before, that why a powerful nation like India has problems winning medals and other such sport achievements? Well in all honesty the country needs to put more emphasis on young people and sports. The government needs to invest in sports teams and other activities, Its seems like a long process but everything starts with young people. One big step India should take is becoming an active member of FIFA, so many nations have gained notariety from football. Take the case of Croatia in the 1998 world cup, they just appeared out of no where to the soccer/football audience, and now they are viewed with a measure of respect. If India can make an appearance in a world cup it would open doors for sports. Also take into account if people in India see a national squad representing them in a prestigous competition this would get many young children to participate in sports they'd want to be like their sporting heros. These are just some small steps that can help India become a sporting power.
