Telecommunications has been progressing at an alarming rate and VOIP is the latest by product of this advancement. Although the technology and the fundamentals of VOIP had originated a long time ago, it was considered impossible. This article will suffice like a guide to the different VOIP services present.

Who doesn’t like free lunch? Likewise free VOIP services are also in plenty to be found. The technology and the working is pretty simple. VOIP softwares will be installed on two PC. They are connected to the internet. Caller in one computer can speak with the caller in another computer with the help of a headset and a mic.

This is the working of services like Skype, MSN and Yahoo. Although these services have been present since a very long time, it was only in the recent years they got the much needed recognition which they deserved. Newer enhancements are always released in the newer versions of the softwares mentioned above. Calls can be made for free provided both the callers have the same software installed along with a high speed internet connection.

VOIP enabled phones fall in the next category. They look like traditional phones, but they can be plugged into a router which is internet enabled. The principle is the same but the only advantage is that the VOIP software is inbuilt into the phone and can be used just like their software counterparts. Wifi enabled phones also form a part of this category.

Wireless technology is implemented in these phones. These phones are provided by various service providers who ask for monthly subscription charges. Analog telephone adapter commonly termed as ATA is also employed in conjunction with this system. We need to sign up for the service and a special router is send to us which can be used for VOIP purposes.
