How did the original girl groups get started like The Andrew Sisters and the like?
58How did girl groups get started
During the Music Hall/Vaudville era, all-girl singing groups were mainly novelty acts singing nonsense songs in silly voices. One of the first major exceptions was the Boswell sisers, who became one of the most popular singing groups from 1930 to 1936, with over twenty hits. The Boswells were noted for their artistry, and often played their own instruments and performed their own arrangements. The Andrews sisters started (1937) as a Boswell tribute band, filling the vacuum left after that group's demise. The Andrews Sisters remained hugely popular through the 1940s and 1950s as recording and performing stars, until the rise of early rock and roll made their tight-harmony, big band-derived style obsolete.

As I recall, in the vaudville days there were also the Gumm sisters out of which was one sister - Judy Garland, and you may find some old records of theirs and if not try Liza's web page, if there is not a web page / fan club for Judy
Thank You.

Thnk you, but do you have any of the songs that the Boswells sung. Maye a video or a list of the songs.
Sometims I wish those big band groups would come back. I know there are Barbershop Quartets still around, but I like the big band groups and I am not old, just like to watch those movies on TCM and AMC.
I was interested in making a nightclub--a real one like back in that day with seating and singing and the lke, but didn't have any backing and couldn't fid the owner of the building I wanted to purchase or even look into.
