I am going to show you specifically how to use this website, HubPages to make a lot of money on the internet without spending a dime. I actually learned the techniques using a number of different websites, but HubPages has become my favorite because it seems to combine the best qualities of all of the others. This isn't going to be a "Teaser" guide, I am going to lay it out for you, step-by-step in an easy to follow business plan that you can put to work for you immediately.

First things first...

Ok, what we're going to do is build a "Hub" (a page like this one) that has a few essential qualities:

1. It must be informative and/or entertaining to the reader. Put yourself in their shoes for a minute.

2. Your Hub must answer a specific question or provide a solution to the reader's problem.

3. If you accomplish steps 1 and 2, this one will come naturally: You need to provide the reader with some real VALUE.

Get Your Creative Juices Flowing

To begin generating keyword ideas, first head over to Dogpile and use their free Search Spy Tool to get your creative juices flowing. The search spy tool allows you to view real search engine requests across all of the major search engines including Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask.

This not only enables you to see what people are searching for, it also allows you to see exactly how they type their requests in the search box. Write ideas down until you get about one side of piece of paper filled with phrases that could be both interesting AND profitable.

Free Online Keyword Suggestion Tools

WordTracker also has a number of free tools I will be telling you about. The first of which is this Free Keyword Suggestion Tool. This is a really cool tool, you simply type in a "seed keyword" and you will get back the top 100 related keywords along with their estimated search volume. This is critical, because as you will see, much of your strategy is simply using the laws of "supply and demand" to your benefit.

Here is another good free online niche finding tool for expanding on your keyword lists.

The next Free Keyword Research Tool is again, from WordTracker. This is their free trial version that you may use over and over again. One of the main differences from their paid version is that the free version only uses results from the MSN search network. All that means is that the stats you see were taken from a smaller sample of results.

This is a really useful tool, spend some time experimenting with it to learn all of the features.

I have not gone in depth for how to specifically use any of the tools I am showing you because the sites themselves do a good job of illustrating how to best use their tools, usually. Plus, that would be way more writing than I'd be willing to do for free;)~

Who is Your Competition?

Now that you have a good list of keyword ideas and you have expanded that list using the free tools in the previous steps, it is time to see how much competition is out there for your phrases.

Now what you are going to do is type your phrase into Google's search engine for "Optimized" search results pages. You do this by typing the phrase in "quotation marks" and Google will return only results for pages that use that exact phrase.

You want to keep only the phrases that get daily traffic and return less than 4000 "Optimized Search Results" in Google. Targeting only these phrases almost completely ensures that your Hub will end up on the front page of Google almost every time, sometimes within an hour. I have had brand new Hubs and other articles (and pages linking to them) show up in the top 4 spots on Google for even more competitive phrases than the ones I had targeted using the same free techniques I am showing you.

The whole idea here is to get a list of search phrases that get a decent amount of traffic with the least amount of competition and build a Hub that both ranks well for your targeted phrase or phrases AND provides value to the reader.

What you don't want to do is put up a Hub for, let's say "Whatchamagidget Flat Panel Televisions" and say something like this-

"I like Whatchamagidget Flat Panel Televisions. Whatchamagidget Flat Panel Televisions are great. Whatchagidget Flat Panel Televisions cure cancer. Buy a Whatchamagidget Flat Panel Television Here." (*Note- If anyone ever invents a "Whatchamagidget Flat Panel Television", I will sell more than ANYONE! Haha, just Google it.)

That is what is considered SPAM because:

A) You have provided absolutely NO VALUE to your readers.

B) You are underestimating the "intelligence" of the search engines and even if you do get ranked on the first page, it will be a short-lived visit.

C) You are insulting the intelligence of your audience, which is the quickest way to make them click away from your site.

Now that you have narrowed your list of phrases to those that only return 4000 or fewer "Optimized" Google results (your competitors) let's move on...

Find Products to Promote to for Your Keyword Phrases

The next step in our business plan is to find products to link to from your Hub so that you can earn some cash. After all, that is why you are still reading this, right?

The first place to start is right here on HubPages. Go ahead and create your free account if you haven't already, it just takes a couple of minutes.

After you are in your account page, click on the link that says "Affiliate Settings" and use the links to sign up for a Free Amazon affiliate account and a Google Adsense account.

Once you have done that, Congratulate Yourself because you just landed 2 great jobs in one day, with two of the internet's most dominant companies and you have many thousands of products at your disposal. The best part, there is no limit on your salary, it's up to you my friend.

So How Does This Make YOU Money?

The two affiliate accounts you just signed up for are very different in how they work, but both are potentially extremely profitable.

Google Adsense pays you for contextual "Ads by Google" ads on your page. You get paid for clicks on your ad which, depending on your Hub's subject can range from a few cents, to a few dollars per click.

• Rule #1. DO NOT CLICK YOUR OWN GOOGLE ADSENSE ADS. They will fire you quicker than they hired you if you do.
• Rule #2. Please refer to Rule #1 (Seriously, take the time to review the Adsense terms of service, they do a good job of telling you what is acceptable and unacceptable.... mostly just what's unacceptable.)

Amazon pays you a set commission for selling products in their site through graphic links on your Hub. You get to determine which products show up on your Hub, therefore, you should only list very relevant products. Remember, you always want your Hub to Add Value to your readers' experience.

You can also sign up for the eBay affiliate program too. They pay you a portion of the Final Value Fee of any auction you refer a buyer to, which is less than what you would earn at Amazon for a similar item. UNLESS... you refer to high dollar auctions such as real estate and automobiles, etc. Always do the math to make sure it is worth your time.

You are now armed with virtually every type of product imaginable to make money from, right at your fingertips, so what do you do next?

Writing Your Articles

The next step in our business plan is to write your articles. The most important thing to get right in your article is the title. Using your keywords in your article title has a big impact on how well liked your Hub is by the search engines.

But using a well planned title isn't all it takes to get traffic to your site. Never get caught up worrying too much about the search engines before you make sure you take care of solving your readers' problems. This is very important to remember for what I will be showing you later.

All you are doing here is creating a short article about whatever keyword phrase or phrases you decided on and placing affiliate links to related to products on your page in order to earn money.

All you need is a few hundred words that:

1) Address the needs of your reader (the phrase they typed in to find your page)

2) Incorporates your keyword phrases throughout the article

3) Talks about the products you are linking to and how they can add value to your readers experience or solve the problem at hand

It's as simple as that.

Social bookmarking sites include sites like Digg, StumbleUpon, Propeller, Del.icio.us and many more. (you do have to sign up with each site you want to submit to, but I assure you, the reward is well worth the effort.)

Basically, you submit a site to them and then the site is shown to people who are interested in that subject. These users can then rate the site, or submit it to other bookmarking sites, generating what is known as viral marketing.

Getting listed on the front page of Digg has been known to crash servers- Yes, it is that powerful and can send that many visitors to your site, seemingly all at once.

This is a way to quickly get thousands of visitors to your pages without spending a dime. The best part is that these users are interested in the subject you are writing about, what more can you ask for than a targeted and captive audience? More of them!

Simply put, the final step of our business plan is to tweak your Hub in order to get the most traffic possible, which will lead to more money for you.

Start in your Hub edit screen, on the right hand side. There you will see that you have the option to add various modules to your Hub, including video, Amazon, eBay, Photos, etc. This is yet another opportunity to be creative and add valuable content to your Hub.

You will also see a "Tags" category along the right side where you can enter keywords that reflect the topic of your Hub. Becoming skilled here and being creative will help you to gain the most exposure possible, just remember to keep the tags relevant to your topic.

Keep a constant watch out for products that you can recommend to your readers on your existing Hubs. Just remember to make sure the product is of good quality, is relevant toyour subject matter and ADDS VALUE to your visitor's experience.
