Most people who choose to get an undergraduate Psychology degree will need to go on and earn their Masters and even PhD if they intend to go far in their career. Although there are many job opportunities for individuals with a Bachelor level Psychology degree, having a Masters level Psychology degree provides for being able to teach at the college level as well as work as a counselor in various settings. To work as a therapist, that requires a PhD and passing a State exam. Nonetheless, earning a Psychology degree offers people a broad range of potential jobs as well as develops and strengthens the abilities and skills needed to understand human nature and to get along with various different people.

For a bachelors degree, complete the course requirements for the major. In any Masters or PhD. program you will be required to take courses in statistics and research methods. These are essential in understanding studies conducted in the field of psychology so you can judge the value of the data. If you don't already have them then you should strengthen both you match skills and analytical thinking skills which can be done by taking courses in those areas.

Choose your area of interest and focus. on courses that will provide you with a solid foundation for that area of interest. You also need to decide whether you want to work in the social services, education, business, medical etc.

Begin early on in investigating possible thesis topics. Your thesis ought to be something you are both passionate about and that addresses issues pertinent to your area of focus. Interview people in the position you aim to be in and ask them for guidance and feedback on issues they face and ideas for your thesis.
