How do I regain my self-esteem after being hospitalized for clinical depression?

When dealing with depression, it is important to remember that improvements in self esteem do not happen overnight. Just like all good things, it takes time. Whenever I am feeling a little down in the dumps, I give myself a pep talk. I always make sure to tell myself that I am doing the best I can. Try surrounding yourself with positive people as well. If you are constantly around negative people then it will bring you down as well. Find activities that you enjoy doing, this will help take your mind off of things that may be causing you to feel depressed. Any activities that require you to use your creative thinking are great. Often times you feel accomplished and proud of the outcome. Another great way to help with depression is to talk to someone about it. Although a proffesional is the best bet, talking to someone close to you may also help. Just getting your feelings out are a great way to help you feel better about yourself. If you don't want to talk about it with others try writing daily in a journal. The most important thing to remember is that if you are feeling severly depressed it is best that you talk to your doctor about it. They may be able to help you with medications or programs that are available to you.
