Be Patient and Develop a Strategy for Writing

What's Your Expertise and Interests?

Finding your "voice" as a writer is essential. Don't expect that to happen immediately. New writers should focus on knowledge they have and, if combined with their passions, then write to these topics. That's how the ideas will flow. Soon, a writer who can combine what they know with their career insights or hobbies will be regarded as an authority.

Organize Your Content

Formatting is important whether the writing is for print or online. Strong headlines, bolded topic breaks and use of numbers or bullet-points will help online readers scan articles easily to glean needed information. A headline tells the reader the topic, sub-heads invite them to read further, and bold headings throughout can guide the reader from one section to another.

Use Everyday Language

Unless you're writing an industry research paper, use everyday language. Write as you would speak. This further strengthens your voice and gives the reader an honest feel for your tone.

Don't try and impress anyone with language that you normally don't use. Someone with limited education but who has knowledge on a particular subject can learn to write effectively if they use their own voice.

Good advice. I found that being myself and writing about stuff that realy erks me gets a lot of views. Maybe not record number views but I think almost 1000 in a little over a month is okay for a beginner

Don

I believe that writing from your heart and having the passion for what you want to express is more important to me. Successful writers have created masterpieces without being experts. That is my view.

It's much easier to stay true to a voice that's really yours than to an affected one. As a creative writer I've learned how much work is required to maintain character voices throughout a fictional piece; it takes so much grooming and revising and reading aloud time and again, for months and sometimes years. Attentive readers will notice, whether consciously or not, a shift in character if voice does not retain continuity. They won't like it, even if they can't say why. Writing commercially or even just on the Internet for fun shouldn't require so much extra work. Say what you have to say in the character of you.

Good hub, straight to the point.

Very well done with lots of food for thought. The search for your own voice can be a tricky journey. Thanks a million for your great tips.

I'd say keep it simple. The simplest is the best. Anf true to your heart. Write about what means something to you. That's the only way. If something is important that will be communicated.
