How do you start living thinner?

Five quick ideas...

  1. Make only one change every other week - don't try to do too much at once. Maybe start by trying to eat one more fruit or vegetable a day. If you can stick with it, then try adding on.
  2. Don't keep junk food (high sugar/high salt) in the house.
  3. Work out for 20 minutes in the morning after you wake up: a jog, walk, yoga, weights.
  4. Meet with a nutritionist/dietician.
  5. Join a group/team or enter a local race (i.e. run/walk, triathlon) so you are more motivated to stick with it.

Above all else, keep expectations realistic. For example, one pound is roughly equivalent to 3500 calories. You would have to have a 500cal / day deficit (by dieting, exercising, or both) for one week to lose one pound. Set an end point (not necessarily a weight target), track your progress and aim for your goal.

Thanks marisuewrites!

I'm sure there's a 1001 other things you could try, but these have been the most effective for me. Everyone's different. I've dropped ~40lbs with another 20lbs to go. Steady but sure....hopefully i won't look round like a turtle much longer. :)

Thanks Doc! I forgot another one....allow for small splurges. :) Very hard for me to turn down a good slice of pizza.
