How do you start living thinner?
54Five quick ideas...
- Make only one change every other week - don't try to do too much at once. Maybe start by trying to eat one more fruit or vegetable a day. If you can stick with it, then try adding on.
- Don't keep junk food (high sugar/high salt) in the house.
- Work out for 20 minutes in the morning after you wake up: a jog, walk, yoga, weights.
- Meet with a nutritionist/dietician.
- Join a group/team or enter a local race (i.e. run/walk, triathlon) so you are more motivated to stick with it.
Above all else, keep expectations realistic. For example, one pound is roughly equivalent to 3500 calories. You would have to have a 500cal / day deficit (by dieting, exercising, or both) for one week to lose one pound. Set an end point (not necessarily a weight target), track your progress and aim for your goal.

Thanks marisuewrites!
I'm sure there's a 1001 other things you could try, but these have been the most effective for me. Everyone's different. I've dropped ~40lbs with another 20lbs to go. Steady but sure....hopefully i won't look round like a turtle much longer. :)
Very sensible tips and I like the balance it provides. Thanks a million for sharing the ideas.
Thanks Doc! I forgot another one....allow for small splurges. :) Very hard for me to turn down a good slice of pizza.
