How do you treat a cut on a dogs hind foot?
70Treating a cut on a dog's foot
First of all I would call my vet and ask him what I should do about the cut. Depending on the severity of the cut the Vet will then decide if I should bring the dog in right away or if it can wait for next day treatment.
Then I would clean the wound on the dog's foot thoroughly with an antiseptic cleanser, such as Dettol or hydrogen peroxide. No rubbing alcohol, it is not good for the tissues. I would Keep it open as much as possible.
The worst cuts are the ones that look the smallest, i.e., puncture wounds. Small opening and deep penetrating wound is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Dogs' teeth, as you can well imagine, tend to produce precisely this type of wound. So watch your dog closely, and inspect him from head to toe every day.

Hi Paul,
I feel sorry for your dog. But this seems to be a question for your vet as I can't see the cut from here and looks like your dog needs professional attention.
It's a minor cut. But, we'll keep our eye on it.
Hi Paul, My dog seems to get those little cuts all the time and I do not cover them. What I do is use a very tiny amount of triple antibiotic ointment before he goes to bed (when I know he'll leave it alone). good luck!
You should wrap it up immediately
It is a shame so many dubious people have such contrasting views on things like this. Looks like I will have to waste money on a vet.

It's a small slice type cut. Our dog isn't licking it, but I'm wondering if we should wrap it.
