Along with glowing skin do you also have healthy hair? Or is it that no matter how hard you try the state of your hair remains dull as ever? Our hair is said to be the mirror of our diet, lifestyle and even our health. Have a look how different state of hair represent different lifestyle?

Dull and lifeless hair

Why: It shows the lack of fat soluble vitamins in your body. In the craze of acquiring model like figure the first thing that gets affected are our hair. When we start to diet and avoid intake of food containing fat, our hair start loosing it's shine.

What to do: Include vitamin A, D, E and K in your diet. Ensure some fat to your food too. Yes I know fat is something that is the root cause of many problems but that does not mean it should be completely removed from our diet. We can continue having fat in our diet in a regulated way while maintaining slim figure. In terms of external care do not forget to use conditioner after every hair wash.

Thin and scanty hair

Why: Too much smoking, stress and long working hours makes our hair scanty. Unhealthy lifestyle blocks the blood flow to roots of hair thereby leading to hair shed. Extreme stress on our eye muscle also cause the blockage of blood flow to the roots of hairs. It's also the result of unhealthy diet.

What to do: Include things like soya bean, nuts, chicken, mushroom and fish in your diet. Avoid red meat as it makes hair thin. Regular exercise that last at least 40 minutes is a must as exercise improves our blood circulation. Break the exercise into 10 minutes of warm up, 20 minutes of vigorous workout and 10 minutes of cooling down.

Dandruff

Why: Dandruff is akin to sweating but here it is the exfoliation of skin that results in itching of the scalp. It is common among people who have oily skin or who let their scalp stay oily for long time without washing their hairs.

What to do: Shampoo your hair regularly and do not let it stay oily for long. Avoid foods like cakes, Chinese meals, sugary sweets and colas as much as possible.

Dry and firzzy hair

Why: Excess use of fancy shampoos that contain nothing but scented and formulated liquids leads to dry and frizzy hair. Lack of iron in diet is also another cause of this problem.

What to do: Use only unformulated and mild shampoos that have the words "For daily use" specified. Condition your hair regularly so that the moisture remains intact. Improve the intake of iron in your diet by consuming spinach, peas, lentils, prunes and raisin.

Fragile hair and split ends

Why: Deficiency of calcium and minerals in the diet, irregular eating habits are the main reasons for fragile hair and split ends. Often people go on a one nutrition diet like no crab or all protein diet. Our body cannot run with just one type of nutrition or without any one of the nutrition.

What to do: Simple solution will be a good balanced diet, this will reduce the fragility of hair. To cure split ends, regular trimming is the way out.

Graying of hair

Why: These days children as young as 15years are developing silver hair strands. It indicates low level melanin in the body. People with poor eating habits, factory worker who are exposed to extreme pollution and heat and even the white collared professional working in AC are most likely to develop early gray hair.

What to do: Protect your hair by wearing cap in pollution and during intense heat. Try not to sit directly under AC blower.

Lice

Why: It is a common problem among school students. It is an infection that spreads from one person to another especially while playing together or working together in close proximity.

What to do: Use anti-lice shampoo to clear them.Encourage others to use them too or else the infection will not be completely removed and it will spread again.

Receding hairline

Why: It cannot be stopped, but only controlled. It depends on the metabolic and hormonal activities of the body. It can also be hereditary and the pattern of the receding hairline often follows the parent.

What to do: Enzyme blocker treatment that protects the hair roots from damage are best recommended. Also make sure your diet is a good mix of all nutrients.

Step to maintain healthy hair

Clean Hair :

Baic hair care starts with clean hair. Too much cleaning, however can be damaging. The scalp produces an oily substance called sebum which coats each hair and keeps it shining and soft. Shampoos are designed to remove excess oil, grease and dirt and to exfoliate the skin cells which clogs and suffocates hair follicles. It is important to choose shampoo according to your hair type.

Daily shampooing is not a problem so long the shampoo being used is recomended for daily use. If your hair simply feels sweaty it is ok to simply rinse out the sweat too. Shampooing does not cause hair loss, nor does excess sebum clog hair follicles.

Brushing and combing the hair :

Never brush or comb wet hair, as it is more susceptible to stretching and breaking when wet. Finger comb it in gently massaging-like movements. Wait until it is damp before styling.

A two minute brushing, combing and stroking routine is massage exercise for the scalp. This will help distribute natural hair oils and improve blood circulation. More then this will over-stimulate the sebaceous gland ans will cause oiliness. Never use force to brush and use upward stroke while brushing.

Hair oil :

Hair oil is the only hair and scalp conditioner in the world. Contrary to the myth that the use of hair oil does nothing but attract grime, regular oiling is a must. One should apply oil and leave it for minimum 4 hours and maximum 24 hours. One should also avoid going out with hair oil applied as dust particle will stick to it and may clog the pores which will cause suffocation to hair roots. Condition your hair by applying with oil at twice a week.

Regular Hair check Up :

One should go for regular hair check up as it is the body's barometer of good health. It can be early indicator of a number of diseases like;

Thyroid problems, Parathyriod problems, Addisons disease, Cushings's syndrome, Anemia, Dietary and mineral deficiency, Hormonal imbalance, Ovarian cyst disease, Tooth problems etc.

The net result is to stay healthy, have proper diet and have a proper lifestyle. Not only it helps us look smart but it makes us feel confident too. I think hair looks best when left alone - minimal heat, gel, hairspray, colouring, etc.

Correct, hair should be best left to itself but if you are facing problem as I have mentioned above then it is important to know what is the reason behind and what needs to be done.
