How often do you read the Bible?
69
I personally read the bible when:
- I am doing research for an article
- I read a Christian book or magazine
- I am going through a particularly difficult time and need guidance and inspiration to get through it.
I do not read the bible ritually everyday, but I may read a devotional which would give a daily scripture reading.
The bible is not really a difficult book to read especially now with modern translations. My hub, a simple biblestudy guide gives advice on how to read and study the bible.
There are bible reading plans that allow you to read the bible in a year. I tried it once but got stuck somewhere around Leviticus. I especially find it difficult to read the bible from beginning to end. I would rather select a particular book, such as Ruth or Esther - you know - one of the shorter ones and read it through. A bible commentary is also a great help.
Understanding how the Bible is made up can make it easier and encouraging to read. Also applying what you have read to your personal life can also inspire you to read the bible more regularly.
I always say that the bible is God's instruction manual for mankind. It does not matter if you are a Christian or not, atheist or agnostic, the bible gives perfect advice on how to live a much more meaningful life.

The whole piece was nice but I really like the part about, the Bible being an instruction manual. Oh if only more people felt that way.
Nice Hub.
Thank you Christine and Roland for your kind and encouraging words.
I have not seen the Acronym for Bible, but I certainly would not doubt that is the correct meaning. The Bible was written for mankind and not for Christians only.
I want to do some research on Leviticus and see if I can make it easier for people to read and understand.
Great Thoughts - Thumbs up from a fan!
Pro 2:3 yea, if you cry after knowledge and lift up your voice for understanding; Pro 2:4 if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures, Pro 2:5 then you shall understand the fear of Jehovah and find the knowledge of God. Pro 2:6 For Jehovah gives wisdom; out of His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Thanks Wbisbill. I have been studying the bibile for years, and it took some time for me to really understand what it says. There are still some things I don't understand, but I know in time, it will be revealed to me.
Hi Lisa, what book would you suggest reading for guidence on divorce?

Hey Lisa, This is a great topic! I have certainly had my times when I would not be in the word but when I do... I do. Living in the 21st century has made things very esay for us to study the bible with so many study materials and such. One of the things that I really found useful was having the bible on CD. I got a copy of the narrated version as a young Christen and since then I have listened to the entire bible two times from beginning to end. The New Testament I have gone through at least five or six times from beginning to end. The first time I went thought the entire bible was in Bible College and I made a journal every few chapters... Wow was that in lighting! It's worth it and I would recommend it to everyone.... Oh and yes i had the sticker made up and then placed it on the front of my bible, Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth... Anyhow if you do chose to get the CD's it's a great time saver when ever you’re in your car. I use to listen to it everyday to work and back for months at a time. Blessings to ya
Thank you so much for enlightening comment Tyhill27.
You know, I only just got a copy of the Bible on CD last week. I have not had a chance to listen to it yet, but I am very anxious to get started. There is also a commentary on the entire Bible on it.
Thanks again for your encouraging words.
Great topic! I read my Bible every day and as a guide I use Today in the Word from Moody Bible Institute. I read through the bible in a year on my own just by reading a little every morning 5 days a week and did it in about 10 months. I also have it on tape and I have listened to it in about 8 months. There are many guides for reading the bible in a year. They are great at helping you stay on track.
Great subject for a Hub,
Dave
Thanks a lot Dave. You know, I have tried several times to read the bible in a year, and always get stuck somewhere? It takes a lot of discipline, something I have to work on.
I read two chapters of the Bible—one from each Testament—every morning. I read it loud, as it was written to be read. I think I have gone through the Old Testament four times and the New about six or seven times so far. It gets better each time!
Wow, that's really amazing James.
I have actually tried to read the Bible from beginning to end. I have even bought a 'read your bible in a year' Bible but still never manage to complete it.
However, I do read the bible regularly and I always learn something new everytime.
Thank you for your comment.

Hey Lisa -
I too have tried reading the Bible in a year on more than one occassion, beginning w/ Genesis. I've also have failed, giving up and concentrating on a book elsewhere that I find more interesting, or wherever the Lord leads. Hallelujah, it's ok - there is no condemnation for us! I've had difficulty getting through Leviticus - and Numbers - although I know there is value to these books or else they wouldn't be there! (I think there is some Medical and Scientific related information there). I love your last statment and couldn't agree more...have you heard/seen what the Acronym B.I.B.L.E. stands for? BASIC INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE LEAVING EARTH. Appealing to others to read it regardless of their beliefs I also think is wonderful. My hope is that if others are in a place where they have not accepted Christ as Savior and Lord but are interested in reading the Bible because of an interest in history or what have you, they will be able to identify what is occuring (or has) in their own lives with that of some Biblical characters. There is value in relating our circumstances to what's been referenced in this awesome book.
