How I nearly quit my Network Marketing Business
I have been involved in a Network Marketing Business now for just over 18 months! In that time I went from sheer excitement at the thought of changing my life, to utter burn out.
I am a hard worker and very determined to achieve what I set out to do.
I did everything my upline told me- and more: Cold calling, 3 -way calls, set up evening bizz opp meetings, prospected everyone I came into contact with-fellow airplane passengers, my bank teller, my hairdresser, waiters at restaurants, my family and friends.
I did home parties, drove around for days to attend networking events, breakfasts.
I did shows at Fair's. I ran myself to the ground and my wallet too!
I had some success, sponsoring in 2 or maybe three new reps per month (one good month I sponsored in 6 new people), but after 18 months, my energy and bank balance were at an all time low.
The trouble was, I couldn't retain the people I had sponsored. After a few months, they would drop out. I found myself treading water, not going anywhere.
My organization never seemed to reach that "critical mass" where it just grows and grows.
Every month, I would desperately work to maintain my minimum turnover (points), so that I could get paid on sales.
My biggest challenges were:
- I was not generating enough leads to grow my business. (And those I found dropped out faster than the new ones came in!Quite obviously, the leads that I did have, were not the right kind of prospects.
- I was not making any money. I had a serious shortage of cash flow. It became not viable to continue doing what I was doing time wise, financially and emotionally).
I felt the dream slipping away from me and I almost decided to quit my Network Marketing Business.
Don't get me wrong: I believe in Network Marketing as a vehicle to achieve financial and time freedom.
I had my reason "why" I wanted to do it...I just didn't know "how" I could get it right.
It wasn't my belief, attitude or motivation that was lacking. Instead, I would come to realise, it was the methods I had been taught, that were not giving me the results I wanted.
Renegade Network Marketer to the Rescue!
Then, a couple of months ago I came across a book by Ann Sieg, called the Renegade Network Marketer. Wow, did it blow my mind! I read the book in one sitting and realized in a flash that this was the solution I had been looking for.

WHY is your Network Marketing Business failin?
When I read Ann Sieg's Renegade Network Marketer, it was as if a light bulb went on.
It made me realize that I (and probably millions of Network Marketing Business owners around the world) had not been taught decent marketing skills.
Do you think its good marketing to CHASE prospects down?
Or solicit them in a mall or at the post office- without any market research or repect for the "law of human psychology"?
Here are some Old School Marketing Methods that have probably been harming your business (there are lots more, but I will cover what I believe to be the three most important)
1. Lead generation techniques where "everyone's your prospect"
Approaching people who haven't expressed an interest in your business leads to a lot of wasted time and rejection.
No matter how brainwashed you have been into believing "each 'no' brings you that much closer to a yes", the truth is, a normal human can only take so much before becoming dejected and disillusioned.
The belief that everyone's your prospect can hurt you and waste your time and money.
Most people simply do not have the time it takes to manually talk to huge numbers of unqualified prospects- which is required to make enough sales or sponsor enough people into the business, to make a replacement income.
Let's say you sponsor in 1 out of every 100 people you talk to. And say you talk to 2 people a day, 6 days a week. And say you earn $100 for each enrollment. That means you would talk to around 48-50 people per month, and sponsor in on average of around 1 person every 2 months. So you would earn around $50 per month. ($100 per 100 prospects)
When a person does say yes, it's more than likely the wrong prospect who came in for the wrong reasons.
You probably had to "convince" him to buy your product or come into the business. This leads to a poor quality prospect who you have to constantly motivate to do anything, and will probably drop out anyway. What a waste of time.
As the saying goes, a "man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still".

2. Sales techniques:
The myth that in Network Marketing we share products/opportunity through "word of mouth" makes most network marketers never learn proper sales technique.
It generally means that you believe your enthusiasm and arm twisting methods will close the sale for you!
If you are like most network marketers, and you happen to talk to someone vaguely interested in what you have to say, you'll more than likely start selling your MLM product and network marketing business opportunity almost right off the bat !
This type of hard closing or enthusiastic "foaming at the mouth selling" is bad for you and bad for your business.
It's bad for the industry as well. There are far more subtle, natural and co operative means to close sales and build relationships with people.
3. Focusing on only selling your network marketing business opportunity and/or products (instead of adding value to the prospect's purchase/sign up)
Ask yourself: Do you buy Starbucks Coffee for the coffee, or for the Starbucks experience? The ambience, the social aspect, the feeling you have when you go to Starbucks?
(You could buy better coffee for much cheaper- and make it at home!)
Most MLM leaders do not teach you how to differentiate yourself from the 1000's of other reps also selling your MLM products.
You need to add something, and market yourself and attract people who are interested in what you can do to make a difference in their life/business building efforts.
4. Single Source of Income vrs Multiple streams of income
Most uplines want to get their team members focusing entirely on their network marketing business and products.
Usually we think focusing is the right approach, but this could really be harming your cash flow and long term staying power in the business. It takes a while for the residual checks to kick in, and in the mean time, monetizing with multiple sources of income while you are building your list, is the savy way to go.
It also helps with the costs of running the business and your marketing budget.
Renegade Network Marketing is a solution to these fundamental problem areas.
Why is it a solution?
