How the ever-changing world of technology affects our lives

Every single day the world is changing, and there’s not much we can do about it. As one of my colleagues suggests we should step back and look at the changes without trying to interfere. We should embrace the change and make the most of it. I think that nothing develops as fast as the area of technology. I would like to take a closer look at some of the changes, especially the ones that I find quite incredible.

Not so long ago, I got to know about a company that had been working on an intelligent house, that would automatically order all the food you need via the Internet, call a plumber if there was something wrong, and set the proper temperature and amount of light a few minutes before you return from work. As far as I know it even cleans itself up, and you don’t have to leave it, because all you need will simply be delivered to you. Also the safety aspects were taken care of. In case of any alert, either fire or burglar, the house will call the fire brigade or the cops. On one hand, it all sounds great and saves time, but on the other hand some crucial questions pop up here like human laziness and disappearance of our capability to cope with life issues. Such houses are to be built in the United States of America – which is the most obese nation in the world – surely a walk to do the shopping will help a lot, don’t you think?

There are also many electronic devices that the IT industry has supplied that hardly anyone can keep up with them. Lately I have discovered the newest idea of Google introducing free GPS to all cell phone users. So far it works only in the USA but I cannot really imagine how a simple, small mobile phone, which I used to send text messages, call my friends or take a picture occasionally, could all of a sudden become a 100 percent functional GPS device. No matter what you say, I find it quite shocking that soon all of our devices will be locked in one small box.

Talking about incredible devices, I remember ordering an architectural project of my future house. During the meeting with an architect, I noticed something strange even though we were in his studio I couldn’t really see the architect easel. On the desk I spotted something flat connected to the computer, and well as this man was supposed to design my house, I had to ask where he was going to do the drawing. Believe me or not, but it was the first time I ever heard of a pen tablet. Of course my architect had all the necessary tools, but he decided to put them in the attic, as he thought that using a pen tablet is much better. Lately I have decided to get one myself and I find it very useful to draw things into my computer or even hand write my e-mails – makes the whole process similar to writing real letters.

The world changes so fast that no matter how hard I try, whatever I write here will be out of date by the time you read it, and quite possibly all the new examples of technical improvements I mentioned will soon become common things in popular use. I personally try to catch up with the newest inventions and benefit from change and best technological solutions.

Absolutely the advances we have had in technology we have had recently is just fantastic. I reccomend you check out some further reading into physics and what we now know about the universe (if you haven't already) - most of it just blows my mind. I hope to hear more from you soon :)

Sometimes I feel somewhat overwhelmed by new technology! This is a great hub, Thomas. I saw on another hub that we're fellow fans of fold and Celtic music. Nice to meet you!
