Photo Effects in Photoshop: Add Eyeliner to a Picture

There are numbers of ways to add eyeliner to a picture in Photoshop. I’m going to share some easy to follow methods.

Open a photo and duplicate the layer. When you duplicate the layer, you can delete, without losing the original photo, if you messed it too much. Duplicating layer also allows you to compare the original photo with the manipulated photo.

Zoom in the eyes.

Select Burn tool; set Range to Shadow, Exposure around 15 percent.

Now, trace the eyes gently.

If you are not satisfied with the result, you can increase or decrease Exposure for darker and lighter eyeliner effects and start over again.

Here is another way to add eyeliner.

Open a photo and create a new layer. Choose black as foreground color.

Zoom in eyes.

Select a soft brush, and trace the eye.

Set Color, Soft light, or Overlay as blending mode.

Go to Filter→Blur→Gaussian Blur. Set the Radius around 3 pixels.

Reduce Opacity around 60 percent and merge the layers (Ctrl E).

Photo Effects in Photoshop: Add Eye Shadows to a Picture

Select soft brush.

Choose a color and paint around the eyes.

Select Overlay as blending mode. (You don’t have to be rigid, you can experiment with different blending options.)

Click Ctrl U for Hue/Saturation

Play with the hue, saturation, and lightness slider until you get what you want.

Use Eraser tool to delete unnecessary coloring if any.

Here is another method to add eye shadows.

Open a photo and create a new layer

Select a soft brush.

Choose a color and paint on the eyelids. Just paint on the half part.

Choose Overlay as blending mode.

Go to Filter→Blur→Gaussian Blur. Set the Radius around 6 pixels.

Create a new layer.

Choose another color and paint over the remaining part of the eyelid.

Select Soft light as blending mode.

Press Ctrl F to use the same filter options, in this case Gaussian Blur.

How to install eyebrow or any kind of brush in Photoshop

You can find many sites that allow you to download free Photoshop brush. Some of the sites I trust for different kinds of Photoshop brush are BrushKing, DeviantArt, My Photoshop Brush, and Brusheezy. Before you download brush, check the brush license from the creator. In most cases, the brushes are free, but some license holders want you to mention the creator if you use commercially.

Find the brush you want and click download button.

Once the brush is downloaded, copy it and go the location of your Photoshop program. For instance C Drive→Program Files→Adobe→Adobe Photoshop X. (X is the version of your program) →Presets→Brushes and paste the brush.

Now, open the program, select brush tool and click dropdown menu on Brush tab. When the dialogue box opens, click right arrow key and select Load Brush from the dialogue box.

Choose the brush you want to load and press Load.

Photo Effects in Photoshop: Eyebrow make up

You can use burn tool and gently brush over the eyebrows to give darker effects. Remember to set the Exposure between 8-11 percent.

You can use Patch tool to delete unnecessary flowing hair on your eyebrows.

If you are not satisfied with the eyebrows, the way it looks, you can even add new eyebrows.

To create new eyebrows, you need to install eyebrow brush in your program. Eyebrow brushes can be of different types, left eyebrow brush, right eyebrow brush or a combination of left and right.

Once you have eyebrow brush in your program, you can delete the original and replace with new eyebrows. This is how you do it.

Create a new layer.

Select Clone tool. Set Opacity and Flow, both to 100 percent.

Press Alt Click to select the area you want to use as clone source.

Now stamp over the eyebrows.

After you have cleared the eyebrows, select Healing Brush tool, and stamp over the edges of cloned area.

You can also use blur tool, with strength around 50 percent to blur the edges of the cloned area.

Now create a new layer. Go to blush tool and select the eyebrow brush.

Set Flow and Opacity around 80 percent. Remember to choose black or brown as foreground color.

Choose the brush size you want and stamp above the eyes.

If you are not satisfied with the placement of the eyebrows Click Crtl T to transform and rotate left or right. With Transform tool, you can also increase or decrease the size of the eyebrow.

Photo Effects in Photoshop: Eyelashes

Select burn tool, set Exposure between 10 and 15, and select Shadows as Range. Now gently brush over eyelashes. If you want to give darker effects, you can increase exposure; or change Range to Midtone or Highlight to give lighter shade to the eyelashes.

If you want to use color on the eyelashes, here’s how to do it.

Open a photo and create a new layer.

Select a hard brush. Zoom in eye.

Choose a color and with a small brush, gently brush over the eyelashes.

Choose Overlay as blending options. Decrease opacity if you think the color is too bright.

You can also add fake eyelashes to your photo. To add fake eyelashes you need eyelashes brush. Eyelashes brushes are different kinds, one type contains upper and lower eyelashes in one and another type contains upper or lower eyelashes only.

Download eyelashes brush and Install in your program.

Create a new layer. Set black as foreground color.

Choose the eyelash brush and stamp over eyelashes. Click Ctrl T for placement and size.

Add some colors to eyelashes to create amazing photo effects.
