Why add a macro to a Comcast remote?
Adding a macro to a Comcast remote control will let you add additional control over your cable box. Additional macros can create a whole new button, a sequence of actions or even change the way another action functions. While most cable boxes users would never think of modding the control, by doing so you can add much needed functionality that might vary from cable box to cable box.
Macros can do many things for your remote control. You can set up a sequence of events that turn on or off every device synced with the remote. You can set up a sequence to turn to your favorite channel upon start up or even skip through a set of channels during a particularly busy TV watching night. Macros help you out by taking most of the work out of using the remote control.
What type of macros can you add?
- Fast-forward through commercials
- Faster or slower skips
- Add more than just a TV or AUX device
- Set up sequences to do certain things when pressing one button
- Pre-program certain channels and settings
How to add a macro to a Comcast remote
In order to add a macro to a Comcast remote control, you want to press the Cable button first. Then, hold the set-up button until the Cable button blinks twice. Once it blinks, type in 995 and the Cable button will once again blink twice. From there, you want to enter in the keys you want to be the macro. Once you have pressed all the keys in the right order, you want to hold the Setup button down. When the Cable button blinks twice, you have successfully added the macro to your Comcast remote control.
How to reset a Comcast remote
If you mess up a macro or just want to start over on a Comcast remote control, you can reset it back by doing what is called an OPS reset. An OPS reset is an operational reset and resets all macros, programs and other settings. It does not restore the remote to factory settings, but it will restore it back to how it came out of the box. In order to do this, you want to hold the Setup button, it will blink twice. From there, type in 980, and it will blink four more times to signify it has been reset.
