Many people are in need of cutting costs to make ends meet in either their business or personal life. Several are looking towards saving money by recovering costs that might be owed to them through taxes, utilities, and other billed payments.

Today, we’re going to look at your utility bill audits. Interest rates have been rising which means you should be taking a closer look at you cash flow, cut unneeded expenses, and recover money. Surveys show that in many cases, four out of five bills are overcharged or have other errors.

Overall, many companies pay their bills each month without questioning what they’ve been charged. Well-done utility bill audits should be completed by professionals, but there are some simple problems that any manager, accountant or CEO of a company might recognize by themselves.

First, never assume that the numbers on your bill are accurate. Look thoroughly through what you have been charged. Look to see that the number on your meter reading is close to what it says on the bill.

Second, be sure to look at the meter constant to see if it was calculated correctly into your usage amount. It should match the constant that is recorded on your meter.

You should also copy the number from your meter to double-check it with your bill. Sometimes errors occur from a clerical mistake and you could accidentally be paying for someone else’s electricity.

These are the basic things you can do to help make sure your utility bills are being charged properly. Using experts can do extra things to help find and recover costs and prevent it from happening in the future.
