Hair loss is a problem most men face. While we see men embracing balding, the onset of hair loss is a dreadful condition, men or otherwise. Thus, it is necessary that you understand what is causing your hair loss to ensure that you will not suffer from balding as many men do.

Know what is causing your hair loss

Common cause of hair loss include the following:

·          Heredity. You copy the genetic hair characteristic of your parents. Do not be fooled by people saying that because your mother's father is bald, you are surely going to be bald. While you copy the genetic characteristic of your parents, the problems or condition should not come from your mother's father.

·          Hair pulling. Cornrows and ponytail causes damage to your hair follicles. Thus, if you are a man with long hair and you usually pull them in ponytail, you will experience receding hairline or crown thinning. This condition is called Traction Alopecia. It is the same problem stressed people experience when they resort to hair pulling.

·          Vitamin deficiency. Iron is important to your general health and well-being. Iron deficiency causes hair loss and thus you have to supplement your diet if you feel that this is causing your hair loss.

·          Trauma including chemotherapy causes hair loss in specific locations where chemotherapy is being applied. After a time, hair loss stops when trauma and chemotherapy sessions stop. This is usually three to six months.

·          Autoimmune system problems known as Alopecia Areata causes hair loss in different locations in the head. A more advanced case such as Alopecia Totalis causes hair loss in the entire head, while the worst condition known as Alopecia Universalis causes hair loss in the entire body including the eye lashes.

·          Male hormone problems known as dihydrotestosterone likewise causes hair loss. DHT is what defines a man's masculinity including hair growth in the face and the body, deepening of the voice and muscle development. It however wreak havoc in the hair in your head because it causes male pattern hair loss.

Now, analyse your condition, are the factors above causing your hair loss problem? If it does, then you have to immediately seek medical help.

Avoid self-medication, your doctor will know exactly what to do and thus, treatment will be directed into the main cause of the problem.

Please know that most of the conditions mentioned above may be treated easily. We will give some treatment options in this article to help you manage your hair loss problem.

Treatments for Hair Loss

If it is hereditary, your doctor may advice advanced therapy to induce hair growth. This is often effective in some cases, while in other cases, it is in your genes and thus there is not much to do.

For other cases, treatments include the following:

·          Minoxidil, is a topical hair loss treatment approved by the FDA. It is a medication known to be effective in treating highblood pressure but a neat side effect is hair growth.

·          Propecia, it is a medicine used to treat prostate cancer. It works to control the movement of testosterone which induces the production of DHT. If you control the production of DHT, it will not cause hair loss and even induce hair growth.

·          Hair loss due to medication, trauma or chemotheraphy. As mentioned, if hair loss is caused by these factors, stopping the usage or ceasing the trauma and chemotherapy will stop hair loss. You can then induce hair growth this way.

·          Iron supplementation for causes of iron deficiency reverses hair loss.

There are other ways your doctor will be able to help you reverse hair loss. The key is to know what is causing the hair loss to ensure treatment will be directed to the main cause.

You do not need to embrace balding if you do not want to. Hair loss is a condition, not a disease. There are ways to reverse it but to ensure you will not loose money on treatments that will not be effective, ensure to check with your doctor.
