A young college graduate publishes a book about a 4th grader and a club that teaches children how to become monsters.

Folsom, CA (AC) August 22, 2008 -- How to Be a Monster is a book about a young 4th grader, Charlotte Templeton who stumbles upon an adventure involve newspaper stories, friendship, and kids trying to be monsters.

Charlotte Templeton is nearly an only child (with a new baby brother). She is a loner who enjoys writing in her journal as well as writing stories and poetry. She one day hopes to be a famous author. Rose is a transfer student, whose mother is a world famous journalist. The two girls become instant friends, because they have so much in common.

The Monster Club is formed by Charlotte's classmate, Steven Binder. Charlotte, Rose and Steven get caught up in controversy, involving the school newspaper, and the monster club. The book explores the meaning of friendship when Charlotte and Rose's friendship is put to the test by lies, secrets and Monsters!

How to be a Monster is a great first novel for young children everywhere. The story is compelling and an easy read for young children. It is a good read for people ages 8 to 80.
