Are you landlocked and looking for a way to relive that vacation in the Pacific Island or Hawaii?
Are you wanting to throw a themed Luau party in your backyard? Well, no Pacific Island theme party is complete without a tiki hut. And building your own tiki hut is a lot easier than you think.

If you are looking for something permanent (a little taste of the beach in your mid-west backyard), there are tiki hut plans that are not only reasonable, price wise, but are easy to create. But if you are looking for something temporary, all you really need is a table or bar, materials to make a tiki hut roof and some beach bum decorations. Ready to get started?

Materials you will need to make a tiki hut:

Bamboo poles
Plywood
Decorations
Palm Leaves

Your base will be a table but I have found that a bar works best.Choose a spot to set up shop, such as beside your pool. If you don't have a pool, no worries...your patio will be perfect. You
want to place it on a solid surface though. If you place it on grass, you will risk some damage
if it rains.

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy some light wood planks. Plywood works pretty well in this case. You are also going to need some plywood sheeting so you will be able to attach some silk leaves and thatching to "authenticate" it.

Grab your bamboo poles and your plywood material and attach them. This will eventually be your roof. Cover the roof with some palm or silk leaves (if you don't have access to palm leaves.

That's it. You now are the proud owner of your very own (temporary) tiki hut. Grab your wife
or girlfriend and let them go to town with the decorations. Add some lanturns, tiki lights, grass matts or anything that reminds you of that Hawaii vacation.

Now all we have to do is make a couple drinks with those funny umbrellas!

Before you fire up that grill to make some big Kahuna burgers, there are some other decorations that will help your backyard look like a Hawaiian Luau.  Here are some things I suggest that will help enhance your themed tiki party....

• Tiki Torches- These are easy to find (I believe that Home depot has them) and you can use them to "light the way" to your backyard so your visitors can find where the party is at (that is, unless they can't just follow their noses...)  Be sure to add a few torches out back around the pool as well for "mood lighting".
• Floating Candles-  Got a pool or a garden pond?  Well, there is nothing more perfect than filling your pool with some floating candles to enhance the ambiance of the backyard.  You can also fill some bowls and place them all around the patio.
• Make some Tiki BarStools-  This may be a bit more involved but a quick fix is to simply attach some thatching and silk palm leaves to the seat!
