Where to Go (Godaddy.com)

As an online marketer on Hubpages you are already using free web hosting and web site building software. Along with the many bennifits of using Hubpages there are also a couple of drawbacks. First, you have limited ability to edit your site. Second, the ways to make money online are more limited than if you own your own site. By purchasing your own domain name you can own the rights to the branding and you can have alot more flexability. While there are many sites to register your domain name and many more sites to host it we are going to talk about only one in this hub, Godaddy.com. The reason for this is they have free web hosting with domain name registration. Currently you can register a .com domain for $9.99 you get free web hosting for your web site. For a .info domain they are only charging $.99 at the time of this posting.

So, you can get a.info domain name such as treebeardsboat.info for $.99 per year with free web hosting. When you do this Godaddy adds a banner above your site to advertise their products but to save between $3 and $30 per month it might be worth it.

When you set up your website choose the Free Linux Hosting.

How to Build Your New Site for FREE

Now that you know where to get a .info for 99 cents with free web hosting, I will show you the basics of setting up your site for free (no money just your time). Now I will show you how to install Joomla (an open source Content Management System). Then I will show you where to get some very good free Joomla templates, SiteGround http://www.siteground.com/joomla-hosting/joomla-templates.htm

First, go to Godaddy.com and login.

Click on "Hosting" then "My Hosting Account"

Click "Manage Account" for you new domain.

Click on "Your Applications"

Click on "Content Management" then "Joomla" then "Install Now!"

Select your domain then click "Continue"

Leaving everything else the same, put in the password then click "Next".

In the text box delete "joomla" and click "Next"

Fill out the fields and click "Finish"

After a little while you will get an email at the address on the page that says Joomla has been successfully installed.

Once you have installed Joomla you can download and install your template. Next go to http://www.siteground.com/joomla-hosting/joomla-templates.htm

Browse through the templates and find one you like and download it. They will require that you fill out some information (including a valid email address) and they will send you a download link via email.

Next you will need to install the template so go to your website and add /administrator to the address. This will bring up your login screen where you will put in the username and password you entered during the install.

Notice the Godaddy banner at the top.

Click on "Extentions" then "Install/Uninstall"

Click the "Browse" button and find the template you downloaded. Then Click the "Upload Filed & Install" button. This will install the template you down loaded. Now click "Extentions" then "Manage Templates"

Select your template then click the "Default" button. You have now installed your Joomla template.

Now to change the content and/or look of the site please go to http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/joomla/index.htm

They have tutorials that can show you how to manage your new site.

Joomla can be a bit difficult to figure out at first but once you get it your set.
