People who live in large cities are searching for ways to save money, and one way to save money is to travel by bus instead of driving or flying. With special offers from major bus companies, it is easy to find cheap bus tickets to go just about anywhere you choose. Getting cross-country has become one of the cheapest trips via bus that you can take, and many buses have amenities that make your ride more comfortable and enjoyable while still saving you money.
Step 1
Locate the section in your telephone book labeled “Bus Stations”." These will be located in the yellow pages of the telephone book and list not only the addresses of the local bus stations and telephone numbers but some also list the amenities the buses offer such as Wi-Fi and electric plug ins.
Step 2
Write down the telephone numbers to several bus companies and their locations leaving room below so you can write the prices of the cheap tickets. This is an easy way of comparing ticket priceswithout getting the companies and prices confused.
Step 3
Phone the companies you have written down and asking for pricing from your current location to your destination. As you speak to each company, write down the person’s name you speak to, the cost of both a one way ticket and a round tripticket. In some instances you can receive a discounted ticket on the return trip from a company located in the town of your destination. Question them about amenities that you may need such as wheel chair accessibility, Wi-Fi, rest rooms, food and accessibility to telephones during stops.
Step 4
Compare pricing for each company and choose the one that is the best value. This may be one that has fewer stops but costs slightly more than one with more stops. You will also want to choose the one that has the amenities you need.
Step 5
Place a return call to the bus company you have chosen for your cheap bus tickets and make your reservations.
Additional Tips for Buying Cheap Bus Tickets
- Some companies give greater discounts for booking well in advance such as reserving your ticket in June for a trip in October.
- Purchasing a round trip ticket is sometimes more costly than a one way ticket. Most times a greater discount can be obtained from a company in the town of your destination.
